99 households with 351 people in the landslide area in Quang Hanh ward, Cam Pha city (Quang Ninh) have returned home after the government issued an emergency evacuation order to ensure safety.
The joy of returning home after more than 3 months of lockdown
On the weekend, residents of Zone 5, Quang Hanh Ward, Cam Pha City are taking the opportunity to clean up their houses after more than 3 months of having to relocate due to landslides.
Previously, after heavy rain following Typhoon Yagi in early September, a large landslide occurred here, forcing local authorities to urgently evacuate 136 households on the night of September 11.

In a level 4 house located along Highway 18 in Zone 5, Quang Hanh Ward, Ms. Truong Thi Dau was cleaning the living room and said that she has no pension, so every day she has to go to the forest to collect medicinal leaves to dry and sell to buy rice and to raise her mute and mentally retarded son born in 1975.
"On the night of September 11, we received emergency evacuation support from the military and the government, and were given careful food and accommodation. A few days ago, the government announced that we were safe and could return home, and everyone was excited. Because living and eating at other places is not as good as staying at home, especially when Tet is coming," said Mrs. Dau.
Mrs. Truong Thi Dau happily cleaned up her house after a long time of having to stay with someone else.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, who lives next to Mrs. Dau, has just gone with her husband, Mr. Le Manh Linh, to get goods to sell for Tet. Ms. Ha happily shared that her family has 5 members, the youngest of whom is in 6th grade. When they had to move to ensure safety, Ms. Ha's family had to rent a house for 2.2 million VND/month, and could not sell goods at home like before, so life was difficult.
"My husband and I do not have stable jobs. Although the government has supported us with 2 million VND and some food, the rent is still a burden. A few days ago, the ward announced that we could go home, and my husband and I felt like a burden had been lifted off our shoulders. Now my husband and I are preparing to sell Tet goods," Ms. Ha said excitedly.
Ms. Hoang Thi Kien (81 years old, group 7, area 5) is also busy cleaning the house. Ms. Kien shared that she is a Tay ethnic, from Lang Son province and was introduced by someone to come here to buy this house for over 1.2 billion VND 4 years ago.
Ha and her husband were excited to transport goods home to sell.
"My family has 7 members. When we had to move, my wife and older children took the 3 children back to their hometown in Lang Son to go to school. Because the youngest son wandered around all day, my mother and children had to stay at a mental hospital. Luckily, the hospital did not charge money and provided food and accommodation. More than a month ago, we were one of the first households in the residential area to return home. My mother and children were very happy," Ms. Kien sobbed.
There are still households that have to continue to relocate.
As soon as the phenomenon of subsidence was discovered in the area of Group 7, Zone 5, Quang Hanh Ward, Cam Pha City on the western side of the hillside, Quang Ninh Province requested Cam Pha City and Quang Hanh Ward to urgently evacuate 136 households from the dangerous area on the night of September 11. Quang Ninh Province issued a decision to declare a natural disaster emergency regarding the landslide here.
Mr. Truong Minh Tuan showed the reporter a large crack running along the hillside next to group 7, zone 5, Quang Hanh ward.
After a period of coordinated research and comprehensive assessment of the landslide area and surrounding areas, on December 6, the People's Committee of Cam Pha City announced that 99 households with 351 people were allowed to return home.
However, there are still 33 households, including 32 households in group 7, area 5 and 1 household in group 4, area 5 that still have to be relocated. The Cam Pha City government also directed to continue to care, support, encourage and understand the thoughts of these 33 households, at the same time monitor and grasp the geological situation to have the next solution...
Hurriedly returning home to get warm clothes for her children and then locking the door, Ms. Vu Thi Ve, whose house is right at the entrance to Group 7, Area 5, sadly said that her family has 4 members, including 2 very young children. Currently, her family is receiving support to relocate and live in an apartment building.
"I hope the authorities will soon make a comprehensive assessment and fix the landslide so we can soon return home to celebrate Tet," Ms. Ve hoped.
Ms. Ve hurriedly went home to get warm clothes for her child and then quickly locked the door and left.
Next to Ms. Ve's house is Mr. Trinh Minh Tuan's 3-storey apartment, newly built a few years ago, worth over 2 billion VND.
Mr. Tuan said that since the day he had to move, his mother and children each took refuge in a different place. His mother went to Duong Huy commune to stay, while he himself stayed at one house today and another house tomorrow.
"I just want to go home for Tet," said Mr. Tuan.
