More effective engagement for a scientific and humane Vietnamese healthcare system

The President commented that Dentistry is one of the few fields that attracts tens of thousands of international visitors and overseas Vietnamese to Vietnam for treatment and examination every year.

On the afternoon of August 17, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong met with professors, doctors, scientists, and leading experts representing the Vietnamese and international Dentistry industry to attend the 2023 Dentistry Scientific Conference and Exhibition. Also attending was Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan.

At the meeting, the President affirmed that scientific research activities, technological development and innovation in the field of health in general and Dentistry in particular have contributed to bringing Vietnamese medical science closer to the world, bringing economic efficiency and profound social significance in many fields.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cao Binh, Director of the Central Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology in Hanoi, President of the Vietnam Odonto-Stomatology Association, with the theme "Dentistry in the new era", the 2023 Odonto-Stomatology Scientific Conference and Exhibition was held very successfully, attracting the participation of thousands of delegates from 23 countries and territories.

Dr. Wong Chi-wai Nelson, President of the Asia-Pacific Dental Federation and President of the Hong Kong Dental Association (China), highly appreciated and congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing the 2023 Scientific Conference and Exhibition of Dentistry. He said that he will cooperate more actively with research and training facilities and experts in Dentistry in Vietnam in the coming time.

Dr. Lawrence Yong, President of the Singapore Dental Association, who has trained many Vietnamese dentists and doctors, shared: Young Vietnamese doctors and doctors regularly connect with the world's medical community, enthusiastically seek knowledge, are always confident in their own abilities and the country's position; at the same time, they nurture a passion for practicing medicine and taking care of people's health.

Professor Ngo Chi Hien, a Vietnamese-born scientist and former Head of the Department of Dentistry at Western University (Australia), has many years of teaching and research in the medical field in developed countries. The professor assessed that, up to this point, it can be seen that the level of development of the Dentistry industry in Vietnam has caught up with other countries in the region. The Vietnamese medical team always has the desire to contribute to the cause of public health care.

Congratulating the success of the 2023 Dental Scientific Conference and Exhibition, President Vo Van Thuong said that this event is very meaningful for the health sector in general and the Vietnamese Dental sector in particular.

The President stated that the Party and State of Vietnam always consider health as the most valuable asset of each person and of the whole society. Protecting, caring for and improving people's health is the duty and responsibility of each person, of the entire political system and society... Vietnam was assessed by the United Nations as a bright spot in implementing the Millennium Development Goals in the health sector in 2015 and is currently continuing to well implement the sustainable development targets until 2030. People's health indicators have been significantly improved and improved.

In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic attacking every country and every medical stronghold, the Vietnamese medical team has made great efforts, overcome many difficulties and hardships, even endured many sacrifices and losses to join the whole people in doing a good job of disease prevention and control; in that common effort, there is the participation and contribution of a team of doctors and experts in Dentistry.

Referring to the familiar saying of Vietnamese people: "Teeth and hair are the cornerstones of a person", the President emphasized that not only does it create beauty, oral health is also a very important part of ensuring comprehensive health, for a better quality and happier life.

Nowadays, when material conditions are improved, spiritual life is raised, the demand for health care and beauty of Vietnamese people is increasing, the concern for dental care is increasing.

The President highly appreciated and commended the progress of the Vietnamese Dentistry sector, which has made many breakthroughs with the network of specialized medical examination and treatment being expanded and upgraded from the grassroots to the central level. Many hospitals have successfully deployed new, advanced, modern specialized techniques, on par with the region and the world. This was further confirmed through the comments of experts at today's meeting. This is a very encouraging sign.

The President commented that Dentistry is one of the few fields that attracts tens of thousands of international visitors and overseas Vietnamese to Vietnam for treatment and examination every year. This shows on the one hand the prestige, skills, and techniques, but the important factor is the price advantage of Dentistry care services in Vietnam, which is competitive with the region and the world. This is a trend that needs to be invested in in the coming time and has reference value for other specialized medical services.

The President expressed his delight that the Vietnam Dental Association has many active international cooperation activities with other Dental Associations in the region and the world. Many programs, projects, cooperation and coordination with dental organizations and international experts have helped expand the care and prevention of oral diseases for children and the community, making a positive contribution to people's health care.

In particular, the Association has a humanitarian surgery program and care for children with facial deformities. This is a program with profound humanitarian meaning, creating a good foundation for children to enter life without having to carry an inferiority complex.

Considering that currently, regarding dentistry, the need for care, medical examination and treatment is still very large, but the industry's ability to solve the problem has not met the requirements, the President suggested that in the coming time, the Ministry of Health, the Vietnam Medical Association, and related ministries and sectors need to make efforts to overcome difficulties in mechanisms, policies, and granting practice certificates, creating new changes for the health sector in general and the field of Dentistry in particular.

Along with that, we will continue to promote training, improve the level of deep expertise, high technology, modern and effective management capacity in healthcare; continue to promote strengths, expand international cooperation more effectively, be an effective bridge, promote good relations and friendly cooperation between Vietnam and other countries.

Thanking the good feelings and goodwill cooperation of international scientists, the Asia-Pacific Dental Federation, the World Dental Federation and the Stomatological Associations of other countries who have accompanied the Vietnam Stomatological Association and the Vietnam Health Care, the President hopes that these good results will continue to be promoted in the coming time.

We will unite more effectively for a scientific, humane Vietnamese healthcare system, for the people and for the friendship, charity and progress of all humanity, the President said, adding that this is also a common characteristic in the mission of doctors, a meeting point regardless of skin color or nationality, we are ready to share and cooperate.
