On August 29, at the Lao Cai Provincial Convention Center, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with Lao Cai Province and the Thai Embassy in Vietnam to organize the second “Meet Thailand” Conference.

Attending the Conference, on the Vietnamese side, there were Mr. Vu Xuan Cuong, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Lao Cai province; Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province, together with representatives of leaders of 14 localities in the socio-economic region of the Northern midlands and mountainous areas and some localities having twinning relations with Thai localities; representatives of ministries and branches: Foreign Affairs, Planning and Investment, Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
On the Thai side, there were Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam, Consul General of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City, Thai agencies, organizations and associations; and nearly 200 representatives from corporations and businesses of the two countries.
Speaking at the Conference, the Thai Ambassador said that the second “Meet Thailand” event was a meaningful and important activity, contributing to further expanding cooperation between Thailand and Lao Cai province after the official visit to Vietnam by Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Currently, Thailand is the 9th largest foreign investor in Vietnam and the number 1 trading partner of Vietnam in ASEAN; Thai investors are “quality investors”, always attaching importance to responsibility in business activities and sustainable development of the localities and communities where they invest.
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Hieu, Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the Conference is an effective step in implementing the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Thailand Enhanced Strategic Partnership for the period 2022-2027.

Vietnam and Thailand can take advantage of new opportunities, continue to share and cooperate more closely to successfully implement the “Three Connectivity” Strategy approved by the two countries’ senior leaders and the “many countries, one destination” initiative to enhance tourism cooperation and people-to-people ties.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs always actively accompanies, guides and supports localities and enterprises to improve the effectiveness of foreign economic relations and international integration.
Speaking at the Conference, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Vu Xuan Cuong affirmed that Lao Cai always considers strengthening economic diplomacy as the top priority in the province's foreign affairs. With many unique advantages, Lao Cai has been and is a successful destination for investors.

With the motto "businesses prosper, Lao Cai develops; businesses unite, the government accompanies", Lao Cai province always opens its doors to welcome Thai investors, and at the same time commits to accompany and consider the success of businesses as its own success.
Mr. Vu Xuan Cuong believes that the second "Meeting Thailand" Conference held in Lao Cai will open a new and good development period for the Vietnam-Thailand Strategic Partnership, the development cooperation between Lao Cai province, Vietnamese provinces and cities with Thai localities, agencies, organizations and enterprises.
The conference focused on two discussion sessions with the topics: Connecting grassroots economy and supply chain and Connecting culture and sustainable tourism.
The delegates had nearly 2 hours of effective and specific exchanges on experiences, cooperation proposals, business orientations from enterprises in the coming time as well as promoting the potential, strengths, policies to attract investment, trade, tourism, and cultural exchange from localities.
Thereby, the Conference has evaluated, summarized, determined goals, orientations, strategies and solutions for investment cooperation, trade promotion, and friendly exchanges between localities and enterprises of Vietnam and Thailand in the coming time.

At the Conference, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Lao Cai Provincial Business Association and the Thai Business Association in Vietnam.
On the afternoon of August 28, the Lao Cai-Thailand Connection program was also held with the theme: Lao Cai - a successful destination. The event was chaired by Mr. Hoang Quoc Khanh, Standing Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee and Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Ambassador of Thailand to Vietnam, with the participation of nearly 100 delegates.
At the program, delegates from Lao Cai province and Thailand discussed cooperation opportunities between companies and enterprises of the two sides in various fields; the strategic economic role, especially logistics of Lao Cai province; learning about key investment areas in Lao Cai province; promoting preferential policies for clean energy investors; preferential policies of the Thai Government for Vietnamese enterprises in general and Lao Cai province enterprises in Thailand in particular.

On the sidelines of the Conference, the Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition displaying typical Vietnam-Thailand products at GO! Lao Cai supermarket took place with 36 booths from Vietnamese localities and Thai enterprises, receiving a lot of attention from Conference delegates and local people.
Within the framework of the event, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also coordinated with the Thai Embassy to organize nearly 100 effective and substantive working meetings between local leaders attending the Conference and the Thai Ambassador; Vietnamese local departments, agencies and sectors with leaders of important Thai agencies, organizations and associations; and between businesses from both sides.
