Nearly 1,500 artists and actors participate in the 2024 National Cai Luong Festival

(CLO) "National Cai Luong Festival 2024" will have the participation of nearly 1,500 artists and actors from 30 art units and troupes.

According to information from the Department of Performing Arts, the 2024 National Cai Luong Festival will take place from October 25 to November 15 at the Can Tho City Cultural Center.

This year’s festival has the participation of nearly 1,500 artists and actors from 30 art units and troupes. The units bring to the festival 34 outstanding plays, promising not to disappoint audiences who love reformed opera.

According to the Festival's regulations, each unit is allowed to participate in 1 play. In case a public art unit has many troupes, the number of plays that can participate in the Festival corresponds to the number of troupes.

The plays participating in the Festival are newly staged or restored with new creative teams from 2017 to present; the plays have not participated in professional art competitions or festivals.

The festival does not use scripts written before 2005 or foreign scripts. In case a script written before 2005 has been edited to suit the present, it must have the consent of the author or legal representative.

Regulations for plays: No restrictions on subject matter; plays participating in the Festival must be approved by the competent authority 15 days before the Festival Opening. In special cases, the unit must send a high-quality recording of the play to the Department of Performing Arts for the Organizing Committee to review and decide. Each play has a duration of 90 to 150 minutes.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will award Gold and Silver Medals to plays and individuals. In addition, the award structure will have 1 excellent award for each creative component in the plays participating in the Festival including: Artistic Director, Author, Adaptation Author, Director, Musician, Orchestra, Artistic Designer, Choreographer.

The 2024 National Cai Luong Festival is a regular activity organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This is an opportunity for cultural management agencies and leaders of art units to search for and discover promising young talents, thereby planning training, nurturing, and orienting development in accordance with the country's traditional art.

The festival is also an opportunity for artists who love their profession to express themselves and contribute; not only the veteran faces, but also the young actors, who will bring new winds to the art of reformed opera, thereby contributing to maintaining and developing this precious traditional art form.
