Along with the chassis, the chassis is a core part, playing an important role on the car, helping to ensure vehicle safety.
Giao thong Newspaper's hotline received a question from a reader who sent in a question about a car with rust in 3 places under the car's chassis, each place is about 15cm long. Will it fail when going for vehicle inspection?
Regarding this issue, a representative of a vehicle inspection center said that, along with the chassis, the undercarriage is the core part of the car. These two parts are likened to the supporting backbone, connecting the details together to form the overall structure of the car and affecting the vehicle's performance.
The chassis is an important part, therefore, when performing vehicle inspection, this item is also carefully checked by the inspector. If rust is detected, the car will immediately fail the inspection (illustrative photo).
According to Circular 30/2024 (amending and supplementing Circular 16/2021) regulating motor vehicle inspection, to check the frame, chassis and connections of the vehicle, the inspector parks the vehicle in the inspection pit, uses a hammer to check and observe.
If cracks, deformations, warping, or rust are detected, the car will fail the undercarriage inspection because it is classified as a minor defect or damage. The inspector will notify the owner of the defect and ask them to fix it, which means the car will fail the inspection and will not be issued a registration certificate or inspection stamp.
"A rusty chassis is very dangerous. If left for a long time, it can cause breakage during traffic, increasing the risk of traffic accidents. Therefore, when detecting rust in the chassis, the owner needs to fix it promptly to ensure safety. However, when fixing it, the owner also needs to carefully study the vehicle's technical documents to choose a solution as well as a reputable warranty, maintenance and repair facility to perform it. Because according to the provisions of Circular 30/2024, if the chassis is connected or reinforced incorrectly according to the manufacturer's technical documents, it will also fail this inspection item," the representative of the inspection center added.
A technician at an auto repair and maintenance garage said that, like the car's paint color, the car's chassis is the part that is most affected by the outside environment.
Accordingly, the undercarriage is often exposed to dirt, gravel, sand on the road, so it will be dirty, corroded, scratched or deformed. Not to mention the weather conditions and limited infrastructure in our country today, the fact that the car often has to wade through water or move through muddy roads will also cause damage to the undercarriage.
Deteriorated car chassis also reduces the performance of components such as engine, brakes and tires.
Therefore, during use, car owners need to regularly check, care for and maintain the car's chassis carefully. Especially, after driving in the rain or traveling through flooded, muddy roads, car owners should clean the car's chassis to avoid wear and rust.
If you see water leaking under the car or strange noises, you should take the car to a reputable repair garage immediately to promptly detect damage and repair it.
