According to France 24, the Brazilian government said that the Group of 20 leading developed and emerging economies (G20) has strongly supported a two-state solution to the conflict in the Middle East.
The announcement was made after the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting ended in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after two days of meetings. According to host country Minister Mauro Vieira, the Foreign Ministers agreed that the two-state solution is the only viable solution to the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Meanwhile, High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell also said that delegates attending the conference reached consensus on the necessity of a two-state solution, considering this the only path to peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict.
In another development, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that Israel plans to expand the framework for the hostage deal with Hamas. Gallant made the comment at a meeting with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Brett McGurk in Tel Aviv. McGurk is believed to have come to Israel to persuade the country to send a negotiating delegation back to Paris, France to resume hostage negotiations through the intermediaries of the US, Egypt and Qatar.
The Israeli cabinet has voted to send a delegation to Paris to resume hostage and ceasefire talks with Hamas, Xinhua reported, after Hamas expressed flexibility over the terms of a framework agreement drawn up by the US.
