G-Dragon tries to clear his name from drug use allegations
On the morning of November 6, News 1 reported that the leader of Big Bang voluntarily appeared at the drug crime investigation unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency.
Currently, all the attention of the Korean public and media is focused on G-Dragon's next statement in his first appearance since being accused of violating drug management laws late last month.
It is understood that the first investigation will focus on determining whether G-Dragon has enough evidence to maintain his innocence following the police investigation.
On October 27, G-Dragon released his first statement through his legal representative, "I have never used drugs," he added, "this has nothing to do with the news reports about violating the Narcotics Control Act" that were recently released to the media.
Then, on October 31, law firm K-One Chamber released an official statement, confirming G-Dragon's decision to voluntarily appear.
"In order to conduct a prompt and fair investigation, Mr. Kwon Ji-Yong decided to voluntarily appear before the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's drug crime investigation team on November 6 and actively cooperated in the investigation," the statement said.
In particular, G-Dragon's lawyer said: "We hope that the press and media will also take a responsible attitude to prevent irreparable damage to Kwon Ji-yong, Korea's representative K-pop artist, due to the spread of groundless false information."
G-Dragon's lawyer also emphasized: "We will take extremely strong action against any inaccurate speculative reports, including spreading false information and defamation."
Meanwhile, G-Dragon was accused of smoking marijuana in Japan in May 2011. Although he later tested positive in a hair test conducted by prosecutors, the Big Bang member honestly told prosecutors at the time, "I smoked a cigarette given to me by a stranger at a club in Japan," adding, "The smell was different from regular cigarettes, so people suspected it was marijuana. I heard about it, but I did smoke a little," he said.
Concluding the case in Japan, the prosecution decided to suspend the indictment because they believed that G-Dragon was a first-time offender and did not smoke much, so the amount discovered did not meet the standards for handling drug crimes.
Fans who posted the video have dismissed the suspicions.
Previously, on social networks and Korean press, some videos were circulated, which were said to show abnormal behavior, showing G-Dragon unable to sit still, constantly twisting his body, stretching (warming up) or shaking his neck from side to side.
Many people compared the Big Bang leader's actions to actor Yoo Ah In, and suspected that this was a manifestation of drug use.
On forums, some people mock G-Dragon as a "tweaker" - meaning a condition in which the brain cannot control the body due to the secretion of too much dopamine from drug use.
However, on October 31, the original video of a video that raised suspicions of unusual behavior was released on YouTube. The fan who posted the video dismissed the suspicions, saying, "G-Dragon stretches often. (Cracking his neck) is a habit of G-Dragon."
Meanwhile, G-Dragon's legal representative said, "There is no such thing as him using drugs," and added, "We will submit all necessary documents to the investigation and actively participate in hair and urine tests so that we can quickly resolve the injustice by discovering the real truth," the representative revealed.
News 1 reported that YouTuber Mashyung also shared on his personal page about this issue: "I don't see this as a manifestation of drug use. There are many videos circulating everywhere but it seems that they are all fake.
Previously, Yoo Ah-in's case was the same. In Yoo's case, I judge it like that. That behavior was not caused by any drugs. I also don't think G-Dragon is an alcoholic."
