FPT sells 40% of capital of AI company in Japan

On April 22, FPT Corporation (stock code: FPT) announced a strategic partnership with Sumitomo and SBI Holdings - two leading Japanese corporations in the fields of finance and industry to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence (AI) through the FPT AI Factory ecosystem.

Under the agreement, Sumitomo Corporation and SBI Holdings will invest 20% and 20% in FPT Smart Cloud Japan - a unit of FPT operating in the fields of AI and cloud computing in Japan.

The three parties are committed to expanding their AI and Cloud businesses in Japan, aiming to build a diverse product and service ecosystem that meets the increasingly complex needs of the Japanese market.

Mr. Truong Gia Binh, founder and Chairman of FPT Corporation, shared that he is working closely with strategic partners to expand the application of AI technology globally.

“This partnership also contributes to promoting innovation, enhancing organizational competitiveness and maintaining technological autonomy, supporting Japan’s goal of becoming an AI nation,” he said.

At the recently held 2025 Annual General Meeting of Shareholders, Mr. Truong Gia Binh shared about the development strategy for the next 3 years (2025-2027).

In particular, he focuses on 5 technologies that he believes will reshape and rearrange the world power order: "AI - Sales - Vehicles - Digital - Green (Artificial intelligence, semiconductors, digital automotive technology, digital transformation and green transformation), in which AI plays a central and leading role.

FPT is pursuing the philosophy of popular AI, with two goals: everyone learns AI and everyone does AI. Each FPTer is responsible for creating their own AI assistant.

FPT Chairman said that the corporation has brought the most modern equipment to Vietnam and Japan to build AI factories. He affirmed that when AI becomes popular and accessible to all classes, the demand for AI factories will increase sharply.

Concerned about competitors like DeepSeek, he said that the more people use AI, the greater the need for AI factories, meaning this model is creating opportunities for the group.

In the near future, Mr. Binh said that FPT will not stop at 2 AI factories because many corporations in the world are proposing to work with FPT on AI factories, those factories can be built in Malaysia, Indonesia, or even in Germany.

“One thing we are very proud of is that startups in Silicon Valley are running on our AI factory system,” said Mr. Binh.

In 2025, FPT aims to grow 20% in revenue and 21% in pre-tax profit. This is a challenging target and FPT has prepared scenarios to ensure that when there are fluctuations, it will proactively and flexibly respond.
