After 24 years of being held annually, this year's Hue Festival returns with a new and unique look, highlighting the differences from other festivals in Vietnam.
On the afternoon of May 9, in Hanoi, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province coordinated with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Information and Communications to hold an international press conference to introduce Hue Festival 2024 and Hue International Arts Festival Week 2024 (June 7-12).

Attending the press conference were Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province Nguyen Van Phuong; Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province Nguyen Thanh Binh; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang; Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong; French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet.
The event also had representatives of leaders of relevant ministries and branches; embassies of countries in Vietnam, representatives of sponsors and many reporters from domestic and international news agencies and newspapers.
Speaking at the press conference, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Van Phuong said that after 24 years of organization, Hue Festival has achieved outstanding achievements, gradually affirming its position, consolidating the Festival brand at national and international level, contributing to creating a driving force to stimulate tourism, preserve culture and develop the socio-economy of Thua Thien Hue province.
Festival with the beauty of four seasons
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, in the effort to become a typical national and international Festival city of Vietnam, Hue Festival 2024 continues to be a unique cultural activity, attractive because of its traditional, impressive and humane nature when turning people and tourists into both creative and enjoyable subjects.
Here, there are not only typical art programs, representing the imprints of many domestic and international cultures for tourists to participate in, but also royal festivals, folk festivals... which have been painstakingly recreated, preserved or new festivals suitable for trends, meeting the enjoyment needs of the public.
Hue Festival contributes to promoting socio-economic development, making Thua Thien Hue worthy of being one of the major and unique centers of the country and Southeast Asia in terms of culture and tourism, contributing to the successful implementation of Resolution 54-NQ/TW of the Politburo on building and developing Thua Thien Hue province to 2030, with a vision to 2045, with the goal that by 2025, Thua Thien Hue will become a centrally-run city on the basis of preserving and promoting the value of the ancient capital's heritage and Hue's cultural identity, with cultural, heritage, ecological, landscape, environmentally friendly and intelligent characteristics.
Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province Nguyen Van Phuong emphasized: "With the orientation of 4 festival seasons, the Festival will include traditional festivals from royal, folk, religious to contemporary art spread throughout the year, suitable for local reality, convenient for tourists and the public to participate, meeting the public's enjoyment needs, developing into periodic tourism".
Accordingly, the Spring Festival - Spring of the Ancient Capital (January - March) highlights the royal Tet activities, traditional Tet cultural space and extremely rich and unique folk festivals, attracting the response and participation of tourists.
Summer Festival - Shining Imperial City (April - June) with the highlight of Hue International Arts Festival Week 2024 contributes to introducing and promoting towards building Hue to truly become a typical Festival city of Vietnam.
Autumn Festival - Hue in Autumn (July - September) focuses on the Mid-Autumn Festival Program with Hue Lantern Festival 2024, combining street Lion - Lion - Dragon performances, displays, installations, lantern processions, traditional Mid-Autumn Festival experiences, introducing the beauty of Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival culture.
Winter Festival - Hue Winter (October - December) highlights Hue Music Week 2024 and ends with the Countdown Program to say goodbye to Hue Festival 2024 - welcome the new year 2025.

A place to promote cultural diplomacy values
The highlight of Hue Festival 2024 is the Hue International Arts Festival Week 2024 with the theme "Cultural heritage with integration and development".
The week promises to bring participants new and unique experiences of culture, history and art, a gathering place for attractive performances by typical domestic and international artists, introducing royal court music and dance and unique folk melodies; high-quality traditional and contemporary art programs from continents taking place every night at stages in Kien Trung Palace, Thai Binh Lau, Thieu Phuong Garden (Hue Imperial City); community stages at Quoc Hoc stele, 3/2 park and throughout Thua Thien Hue province.
Besides the main programs and activities, there are also accompanying and responding activities, socialization programs and many other community cultural activities.
At the press conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang affirmed that Hue Festival has become one of the prestigious and branded events not only for Hue but also for Vietnam; it is considered an event that demonstrates the lively exchange between tradition and modernity, with the cultural colors of Hue, Vietnamese culture and countries around the world.
Ms. Nguyen Minh Hang also pointed out the outstanding meanings of this extremely important cultural event: promoting heritage and cultural values, promoting the preservation, honoring and promoting heritage values, promoting solidarity for national peace and development; continuing to honor Hue culture, a place where UNESCO-recognized heritage converges; not only promoting Hue culture but also promoting and spreading Vietnamese culture with rich, diverse and rich identity; having an important meaning in creating opportunities to promote cooperation, exchange and cultural connection between Vietnam and the world; the event promotes the preservation and promotion of heritage values, and promotes tourism.
Over the past time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has always accompanied and provided maximum support to Thua Thien Hue province, as well as closely coordinated with relevant agencies of the province in successfully organizing Hue Festival 2024.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang hopes that the success of Hue Festival 2024 will continue to contribute to the journey of preserving, honoring and developing the cultural values of Hue and Vietnamese culture.
Affirming that Hue Festival was formed from a Vietnam-France exchange activity since 1999 and has lasted until now, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Permanent Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, said: "Since 1999, the province has cooperated with France - a traditional and very effective partner. Therefore, the international element has always been the highlight, the brand that we have worked hard to maintain for many years."
Here, French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet also shared: “Since the first festival cooperation in 1999, over the past 24 years, we have always accompanied the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue to honor the value of cultural heritage. In this year's Hue Festival, the light festival inspired by Hue heritage materials and modern Western technology is expected to take visitors on a magical and poetic journey.”

According to the Organizing Committee of Hue Festival 2024, up to now, 12 international art troupes from 7 countries around the world have registered to perform at the Hue International Arts Festival Week 2024. This is where the unique traditional art programs of Asian national art troupes converge, such as: Zhejiang Dance Troupe (China); Kobugakudan URAKAJI Drum Dance Art Troupe of Okinawa City (Japan); Sae nyuk Folk Art Troupe, Korean Culture and Arts Association - Yangpyeong Branch (Korea)... Hue International Arts Festival Week 2024 will have main activities and programs continuously for 6 days: Opening Program of Hue Festival Week 2024; Street Festival of Cultural Colors ; Performances of domestic and international art troupes; Trinh Cong Son - Love Found Music Dialogue Program; Light Festival; Beer Festival; Vegetarian Food Festival and Lantern Festival; Tam Giang Water Wave Festival; Art program closing the Week. |
