The FBI stressed that it was investigating the incident as an assassination attempt, but was also considering it an act of domestic terrorism. The agency said the gun used to shoot Mr. Trump was purchased legally and was an AR Model 556 rifle.
In addition, the FBI said that so far it has not discovered that the suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks - the person who caused the shooting of Mr. Trump - has a history of mental illness, but affirmed that it will review social media accounts, weapons used in the incident and related DNA evidence.
The FBI said finding the motive behind the shooting of Mr Trump was one of its top priorities, warning that threats of violence online had increased, especially since the incident.
Earlier, the FBI confirmed that the suspect who shot Mr. Trump was Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20 years old, living in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The perpetrator was killed by security forces on the spot.
Meanwhile, according to a VNA correspondent in Havana, on July 14, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel condemned the attack on former US President Donald Trump during his election campaign in Pennsylvania. Cuban state media broadcast a message from President Diaz-Canel, emphasizing that Cuba condemns all forms of violence.
Also on July 14, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro criticized the attack on Donald Trump. Speaking at a press conference, the Venezuelan President sent his best wishes to Donald Trump. Maduro also wished peace to the American people.
