The project, with a cluster of 4 units with a capacity of 1,600kW/unit, was completed on February 6, 2024. The total investment for the entire project is 74 billion VND.

Deployed from September 6, 2023, the contract implementation period is 175 days (expected to be completed on March 6, 2024), but thanks to the determined efforts of the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC), Ba Ria-Vung Tau Power Company (PC BR-VT), Tam Thanh Phat Joint Venture; Thanh Loi Construction Company Limited, Southern Power Consulting Company, Southern Power Services Company and Southern Power Testing Company are the contractors for construction, installation, supervision and testing.
The moment of grid connection of 4 1,600 kW generators.
After the 4 generators are accepted and energized, the project is completed and integrated into the existing generator system (total capacity of 11,820 kW), it will contribute to increasing the operational and reserve power source for socio-economic development, providing power for social security and national defense in Con Dao district, until there is a grid-connected power project that has been allocated capital and is being implemented by EVN.
Completed 30 days ahead of schedule, the project added a 6,400kW power source, increasing the diesel power generation capacity of the Electricity industry in Con Dao district to 15,720 kW, with an available capacity of about 13,000 kW.
Secretary and Chairman of Con Dao District People's Committee Le Van Phong spoke at the ceremony.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Le Van Phong - Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Con Dao district congratulated the Electricity sector for its efforts to complete the project one month ahead of schedule, reducing difficulties in providing electricity on the island.
“ This project, when put into operation, will contribute to increasing the operational and backup power source for socio-economic development, providing power for social security and national defense in Con Dao district, until the completion of the underground cable project to bring national grid power to the island ,” the Secretary of Con Dao district shared.
Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duc - General Director of EVNSPC said that although Con Dao has been supplemented with backup power, basically meeting the production and living requirements of the people on the island, the Electricity industry still hopes that the local government will continue to accompany and call on all customers and businesses to have many solutions to increase safe and economical use of electricity, especially in the upcoming hot season.
Regarding the development of load in Con Dao in 2024 and the following years, Mr. Duc also suggested that local authorities need to carefully consider and limit the massive development of load until the project to invest in supplying electricity from the national grid by submarine cable is operational because the Electricity industry is currently losing an average of 150 billion VND per year due to the cost of running diesel generators.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Deputy Director of PC BR-VT said that PC BR-VT received the power grid of Con Dao district in 2014 with a commercial output of 8.82 million kWh/year. By 2022, the commercial electricity output had reached 32.44 million kWh, the average growth rate in the period 2014-2022 was 14.71%. In 2023, the commercial output of Con Dao district reached 36.32 million kWh, an increase of 11.98% compared to 2022.

After the Electricity sector received the power grid handover in Con Dao district from the People's Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province at the end of 2014, the Electricity sector applied the electricity price for the island district according to the mainland price, so the current average price has decreased by about 2,200 VND/kWh, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of the island district, while also causing the demand for electricity during this period to increase very high, averaging 17-20%/year.
To meet the electricity demand of the people and customers on the island, since 2015, the Electricity industry has invested in building 5 more Diesel generators, each with a capacity of 1,500 kW; while also compensating for an average loss of 150 billion VND/year due to the cost of running Diesel generators.
