During the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30) and International Labor Day (May 1) this year, it is forecasted that the demand for electricity in the northern provinces and cities will increase, especially in tourist areas, entertainment areas, commercial centers and densely populated areas.

In order to ensure the safe and stable operation of the power system, providing continuous power supply to serve the people and political, cultural and social activities, the Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) has been synchronously implementing many practical solutions, proactively responding to all possible situations.

High load, EVNNPC synchronously deploys many solutions

According to EVNNPC's assessment, during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, although some production loads decreased due to businesses temporarily suspending operations, the demand for electricity for service activities, entertainment, accommodation, and tourism increased sharply, especially in key areas such as Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho...

Notably, this is also the beginning of summer, with the possibility of local heat waves, causing household electricity consumption to increase, putting great pressure on the national power system in general and EVNNPC in particular.

EVNNPC is managing and operating nearly 94,131 km of medium and high voltage lines and more than 370 110kV transformer stations, with a commercial electricity output of nearly 100 billion kWh/year. Of which, many important lines and transformer stations are operating at full load, posing a potential risk of incidents if not strictly controlled.

Implementing the direction of the National Power System and Electricity Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO), EVNNPC has issued a document directing its affiliated units to synchronously deploy technical solutions to ensure safe operation of the power system during the holidays.

Specifically, the Corporation requires units to strengthen inspection and review of the operating status of primary and secondary equipment, protection relays, and auxiliary equipment; pay special attention to automatic protection systems, control interlocks, and voltage stabilization support devices such as shunt resistors, SVGs, SVCs, etc. to ensure the system operates safely and stably when the load suddenly increases.

For equipment that is being separated from operation due to abnormalities or defects, EVNNPC directs urgent repairs and puts it back into operation as soon as possible, and reports progress and expected completion time to the dispatch level before April 15, 2025 to establish appropriate operating methods.

In addition, the Corporation requires units not to perform repair and maintenance work on the power grid during the holiday, except in special cases where it is really necessary. When forced to carry out work, units must strengthen inspection, supervision, strictly implement electrical safety procedures, and absolutely ensure that subjective incidents do not occur.

Increase shifts, ready to handle incidents

EVNNPC has directed units to arrange sufficient human resources and equipment to be on duty at transformer stations, key power lines and areas at high risk of incidents; prepare adequate supplies, spare equipment, means and tools to be ready to handle quickly and promptly when situations arise, to avoid interruption of power supply to customers.

At the same time, provincial/municipal Power Companies, Northern Power Service Company, and Customer Care Center have developed detailed response plans for each area and location, focusing on key areas, political and cultural events, entertainment areas, tourist areas, hospitals, and medical facilities.

In particular, the affiliated Power Companies also proactively work with local authorities, industrial parks, tourist areas, and large manufacturing enterprises to agree on a plan for safe and stable power supply, while at the same time promoting and mobilizing customers to cooperate in using electricity economically and effectively.

Along with the efforts of the electricity industry, EVNNPC hopes to continue receiving the companionship and sharing of customers and the community in using electricity safely, economically and effectively.

EVNNPC also recommends that people and businesses should limit the use of high-capacity electrical equipment during peak hours; prioritize the use of electrical equipment with energy-saving labels; turn off equipment when not needed and check the electrical system in homes, offices and businesses to ensure safety during the holiday.

With careful, synchronous preparation and a high sense of responsibility, EVNNPC is determined to ensure safe, continuous and stable power supply, well serving political, cultural and social activities and essential needs of the people during the holidays of April 30 and May 1, 2025.
