On October 13, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union (EU), Josep Borrell, held the 12th China-EU High-Level Strategic Dialogue in Beijing.

At the Dialogue, Mr. Wang Yi affirmed that China attaches great importance to its relations with the EU and regards the EU as an independent and important pole in a multipolar world. Emphasizing that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, Mr. Wang Yi pointed out that the two sides have resumed exchanges at all levels, and high-level meetings on environmental protection, digital economy, and trade have been held successfully, leading to new results and consensus.

Mr. Wang Yi said that through strategic dialogue, the two sides need to understand each other correctly, maintain partnership commitments, strengthen political trust and avoid misunderstandings. The two sides need to promote dialogue and cooperation, be open to each other, expand investment and trade, and promote people-to-people exchanges.

Meanwhile, Mr. Borrell said the EU attaches great importance to its relations with China and is committed to developing stable and constructive relations.

Mr. Borrell stated that economic and trade cooperation between the EU and China meets the interests of both sides and the EU will not close its doors to China; emphasizing that the EU is happy to witness China's prosperity and stability and wishes to strengthen cooperation with China on climate change.

Speaking at a press conference in Beijing after the talks, Mr. Borrell said his message to Chinese officials during his visit to Beijing was that Brussels valued China and expected the same in return.

He also said that during the dialogue, the two sides discussed the crisis in Israel and the Gaza Strip as well as issues related to the EU's recent investigation into electric vehicles imported from China.
