Ericsson helps Vietnamese operators seamlessly transition from 4G to 5G

DNVN - Ms. Rita Mokbel - President of Ericsson Vietnam said that as the world's leading network infrastructure provider, Ericsson is supporting Vietnam in developing digital infrastructure, helping Vietnamese network operators seamlessly transition from 4G to 5G.

Responding to the press about the readiness of Vietnam's digital infrastructure for 5G commercialization up to this point, Ms. Rita Mokbel - President of Ericsson Vietnam said that Vietnam is gradually building modern digital infrastructure to support 5G with an important milestone being the recent auction of 5G bands. The 2600 MHz and 3700 MHz bands have been licensed, marking important steps in this journey.

To fully exploit the potential of 5G, close cooperation between network operators and technology providers such as Ericsson is extremely important. Ericsson has been a trusted partner of Vietnam in its digitalization journey for many years. Since 2019, Ericsson has participated in 5G pilot projects with domestic telecommunications operators, thereby understanding the potential and needs of the Vietnamese market.

With global experience and leadership in 5G deployment, Ericsson is ready to support the commercialization of 5G in Vietnam. The Group is recognized as a global leader in 5G, with 166 operational 5G networks deployed out of 320 5G networks deployed worldwide.

“Our goal is to help operators seamlessly transition from 4G to 5G, optimize network performance, and support them in unlocking value from their network infrastructure. From private 5G networks to smart cities and fixed wireless access, we are focused on helping operators create value from 5G, contributing to the national digital transformation agenda,” said Rita Mokbel.

In response to the question of what development opportunities digital infrastructure, especially 5G, will open up for businesses and Vietnam's digital economy in the future, the President of Ericsson Vietnam affirmed that 5G has the potential to become an important transformation factor in many industries, enabling automation, improving productivity and optimizing resource management.

Industries such as manufacturing, logistics and smart cities will benefit the most. For Vietnam, 5G will play an important role in promoting Industry 4.0, attracting foreign investment and boosting economic growth.

Private 5G networks will enable businesses to innovate and reduce costs, while also providing new revenue opportunities for telecom operators. Overall, 5G will be an important tool for Vietnam to achieve its goal of building a digital economy, which is expected to contribute 20% of the country's GDP by 2025.

Ericsson is working closely with local operators and enterprises to develop use cases that are tailored to Vietnam’s unique needs. Key areas include private networks for industries such as manufacturing and logistics, as well as supporting the government’s smart city initiatives.

“We are also considering deploying fixed wireless access systems to provide high-speed and reliable internet in areas where traditional fiber optic networks are difficult to deploy. In addition, we are committed to fostering innovation through collaboration with universities and research institutes such as RMIT to develop the skills needed for Vietnam’s digital future,” said the President of Ericsson Vietnam.
