X (Twitter) social network boss Elon Musk mocked Meta's social networks for having errors.
“If you’re reading this, it’s because our servers are still up,” Musk wrote on X.

X itself has faced some disruptions in the past following Elon Musk's $44 billion acquisition of the social media platform in October 2022. X suffered an outage in December 2022, affecting more than 77,000 users in countries ranging from the US to France.
Earlier, a series of Meta apps including Facebook, Instagram and Messenger stopped working. Users found themselves unable to download the apps or access the web version as usual. On Facebook, affected users found themselves logged out of their accounts and unable to log back in, while Instagram was completely down.
Many people were concerned that their accounts had been hacked, and several related phrases trended on Twitter/X. But the error messages appeared to be caused by a problem with Facebook's login system, not a hacker.
Facebook also said the White House National Security Council is monitoring the incident and is not aware of any specific malicious cyber activity at this time.
Meta spokesperson Andy Stone posted on Twitter/X that the company was aware of the issue. “We know people are having trouble using our services. We are working on a fix right now.”
Mr Stone later wrote that the issue had been resolved, describing the error as a “technical issue” – without specifying what caused the apps to stop working.
The apps were back up after more than 2 hours.
WhatsApp, which is also owned by Meta, meanwhile appears to be working normally. WhatsApp Business and Threads have had smaller issues.
Meta shares fell 1.2% in afternoon trading. The company has about 3.19 billion daily active users across its apps, including WhatsApp and Threads.
Several Meta employees said on the anonymous messaging app Blind that they were unable to log into internal work systems, leaving them wondering if they had been fired.
