Exchange session between New Zealand edtech delegation and guests from the New Zealand community and Kiwi partners in the education and service sector in Vietnam
As part of a regional visit to learn about the digital education environment and expand opportunities for exporting products and services, a delegation of leading New Zealand edtech companies visited Vietnam from November 12-15. The event, organized for the first time by Education New Zealand (ENZ), aims to promote extensive cooperation in the edtech sector and demonstrate the growing interest of New Zealand edtech businesses in the Vietnamese market.
According to ENZ, New Zealand has witnessed significant growth in the edtech sector in this country when more than 70% of businesses have edtech products and services exported to international markets such as the US, Australia, Asia, Europe... Meanwhile, the rate of people accessing the internet in Vietnam is up to nearly 78 million people, attracting the attention and investment of many global businesses, especially New Zealand.
"Through the visit, we want to gain a deeper understanding of the education landscape and establish collaborative relationships with Vietnamese education agencies and units," said Ben Burrowes, ENZ's regional director for Asia. Mr. Burrowes said New Zealand is known for its outstanding technological innovations and top-quality education, and the combination of these two advantages creates a competitive advantage for New Zealand edtech companies.
During this visit to Vietnam, the New Zealand edtech delegation included many businesses in various fields such as neuroscience, early education or learning English through movies, targeting high school students and adults. Over the past time, the delegation also met and exchanged with more than 20 partners, including state management agencies, educational units and businesses in the edtech ecosystem in Vietnam.
New Zealand edtech delegation discussed with Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training about the application of information technology and edtech products in schools in the city.
In the context of the educational cooperation relationship between New Zealand and Vietnam that has been continuously expanding in recent years, the delegation's visit promises to open up many prospects to promote the development of educational institutions and edtech enterprises of the two countries. And in the future, Vietnamese learners can easily access quality educational content thanks to technology, contributing to promoting equality in education and developing a generation of digital citizens ready to integrate globally, according to ENZ.
New Zealand's technological footprint
According to Alana Pellow, ENZ's business development director for edtech, technological innovation is part of New Zealand's DNA. The success of New Zealand digital visual effects companies through film series such as Lord of the Rings and Avatar is a prime example. "Being isolated from the world in the southwest Pacific Ocean has inspired us to be pioneers in innovation," Pellow said.
It is the innovative spirit of New Zealanders that has propelled this island nation of 5.2 million people to consistently rank among the countries with the easiest environments for starting and doing business, according to a report from the World Bank. At the same time, the Kiwi country also ranked 5th in the 2023 Index of Economic Freedom published by the US Heritage Foundation.
