The Ecuadorian Ambassador considered Vietnam a strategically important partner in the region and expressed his hope that Ecuador would have a diplomatic representative office in Vietnam in the near future.

On October 25, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam received Ecuadorian Ambassador to Australia Arturo Cabrera-Hidalgo at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Canberra (Australia). According to a VNA correspondent in Australia, Ecuadorian Ambassador Arturo Cabrera-Hidalgo highly appreciated the friendship and cooperation between Ecuador and Vietnam, considering Vietnam a strategically important partner in the region and expressing his hope that Ecuador will have a diplomatic representative office in Vietnam in the near future. Ambassador Arturo Cabrera-Hidalgo expressed his hope that the two countries will strengthen cooperation and support each other to become official members of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC), and at the same time share Ecuador's experience in tuna fishing cooperation between Ecuador and island nations in the South Pacific. For his part, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam highly appreciated the friendship and cooperation between Ecuador and Vietnam, expressing his hope that the two countries will further strengthen cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, people-to-people exchange, as well as cooperation at regional and international forums, including cooperation within the framework of the WCPFC. Ambassador Pham Hung Tam also learned about Ecuador's experience in fisheries cooperation with island nations in the South Pacific, especially in tuna fishing, as Ecuador is the country with the second largest tuna fishing fleet in the world and has many activities in this region.
