Ea Ktur on the development path

Visiting the roads inside Pu Hue village (Ea Ktur commune), Village Chief Y Nik Eban (68 years old) expressed his joy at the prosperity of the village.

He still remembers clearly that about 30 years ago, out of 162 households in the village, 102 were poor. The roads were all dirt roads, rarely paved with crushed stone. Schools were far from residential areas, people mainly cultivated rice, worked as hired laborers, and had a very difficult life. Over time, with the attention of the local Party Committee and government, out of 272 households in the village, there are now only 12 poor households. People know how to develop the economy from key crops such as pepper, coffee, and durian. Many intercropping models have been effectively applied.

Thatched houses and dilapidated wooden houses have been replaced by spacious Thai-roofed houses. In recent years, agricultural products have been in season and prices have been good, so people have been able to buy cars, pumps, grinders, and agricultural dryers. New rural roads built by the government and the people have been covered, ethnic minority children no longer drop out of school, and the rate of university and vocational training graduates with stable jobs is increasing.

Mr. Ly Van Dieu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ea Ktur commune, said that the changes in Pu Hue hamlet are one of the concrete evidences of the rise of a purely agricultural commune like Ea Ktur. The whole commune currently has 23 hamlets and villages with 3,663 households and more than 18,800 people, of which the Ede ethnic group accounts for nearly 30% of the commune's population. In the early days of its establishment, Ea Ktur commune still faced many difficulties when it had to focus on leading economic development while strengthening security and national defense. The Party Committee of Ea Ktur commune has proposed many appropriate, close, and correct policies, decisions, and tasks to lead the people of all ethnic groups to unite and help each other, overcome difficulties and challenges, work creatively, and strive to increase production, eliminate hunger, and reduce poverty.

In recent years, by boldly identifying and focusing on implementing strategic breakthrough tasks on crop restructuring, infrastructure investment, new rural construction, and improving the quality of staff, all aspects of work of Ea Ktur commune have achieved and exceeded the planned targets.

The economy of Ea Ktur commune is currently at a fairly high growth rate, the scale of the economy is increasingly expanding, the value of agricultural production is increasing. The average annual coffee yield is from 2.5 to 3.2 tons of green beans/ha; pepper has an average yield of 2.5 to 3 tons/ha. The average income per capita is 72.5 million VND/year. The development of the commune's infrastructure increasingly meets the needs of the people. Irrigation works have ensured irrigation for 98% of the crop area that needs irrigation. The transportation system has been expanded, renovated, and upgraded, basically meeting the transportation needs of the people, the rate of asphalt roads to the commune center is 100%, inter-village and inter-hamlet roads are 100% hardened, over 99% of households use safe electricity.

Implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development, Ea Ktur commune has become a bright spot in Cu Kuin district as one of the first localities to reach the new rural finish line of the district and is currently gradually building an advanced new rural commune. Up to now, the commune has been implementing the project "Livelihood diversification model to develop poverty reduction model" and the project "Developing production to improve nutrition" under the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction. With the consensus and determination of the entire political system joining hands to implement social security and welfare programs, supporting the poor and near-poor, by the end of 2024, the whole commune will have only 2.61% of poor households (a decrease of 25.3% compared to the target set in the 2024 resolution).

Administrative reform is also considered a key task by local Party committees and authorities and implemented with many good models and effective methods such as arranging union members and youth to support and guide people when carrying out administrative procedures; installing surveillance cameras at the Reception and Result Delivery Department; implementing the model "No writing on days, no appointments on Fridays", guiding and processing people's records quickly, ensuring compliance with regulations and procedures, which is highly appreciated by the people.

These results have created a premise for the Ea Ktur Commune Party Committee to continue promoting the strength of national solidarity, mobilizing all resources to boost socio-economic development, maintain national defense and security; gradually modernize rural agriculture, and build Ea Ktur Commune to develop comprehensively and sustainably.
