On the evening of July 30, a large audience of young people came to watch and cheer on the show "Teu tam tan" at the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House. On stage, 11 actors from the group "Sai Gon Teu" "threw out" making the audience laugh with each story.
Laugh responsibly
The group "Sai Gon Teu" used the art of stand-up comedy to perform the theme "Teu Tam Tan" which was the theme of the show at the end of July, when the city was immersed in rain, people were rushing in the rainy afternoons, some places were flooded, some places had potholes, but still smiled brightly to try to get home quickly. "Teu Tam Tan" is a series of jokes, jokes, wordplay, debates... around that sadness but optimism that warmed everyone, together overcoming difficulties to live well.
Experts commented that the "Sai Gon Teu" group has made great efforts in creating the script, from seemingly nameless stories that have turned out to be "true". Without the support of costumes or other props, each actor and story brings the audience closer together through shared laughter, sympathy and optimism. The stories of "Teu Tam Tan" are not simply jokes for laughs, but responsible laughter.
The group "Sai Gon Teu" said that the group's criteria is to say no to "too silly" issues. This has created skepticism among the audience, because no matter how "funny" it is, it must have some "vulgar" implications because it is easy to make people laugh. Uy Le - the group leader said: "As a new form of comedy art introduced to Vietnam, in order to avoid falling into the line between humor and vulgarity, we have come up with a clear script idea. Recently, when expanding the performance venues, we always send the script in advance to the organizing committee."

Laughter is educational
The strength of stand-up comedy, according to experts, is to bring current issues of interest into the comedy story. Most specifically, in the program "Teu tam tan", the audience can participate in improvisation on stage with the actors, which is a current story about the Korean music group Blackpink.
Launched in March 2020, initially performed only at a small coffee shop on Su Van Hanh Street, District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, "Sai Gon Teu" has now expanded its performance locations to many places and boldly brought it to the big stage at the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House. The group also organizes vocational training and training for young people who love comedy monologues.
In addition to the group leader Uy Le, the remaining 10 members include: Phuong Nam, Nhi Vo, Trong Phan, Trung Coffee, Minh Ti, Khang Hi, Huyn Khanh, Tung BT, Uy Nguyen, Lam Truong Giang. Each person has their own strengths, but in general, they stick to life, exploiting topics about phenomena on social networks, especially stories of statements that lead to controversial debates. The recent phenomenon of cyberbullying is also exploited by the group to borrow laughter to criticize this negative action.
People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc once commented that in order for young audiences to be passionate about the relatively new art form of stand-up comedy, there needs to be more debate to help actors shape their own style of stand-up comedy. Because everything must be consistent with the culture of enjoying art of the Vietnamese people.
According to Meritorious Artist Ca Le Hong, to find a common ground with young audiences, the "Sai Gon Teu" group should be open to learning by opening a mailbox on the homepage, so that audiences of the same age can share their thoughts, even come up with scripts for stand-up comedy. Expanding that data source, while creating criticism from viewers, will create an attraction for laughter to become a sharp tool, destroying bad habits and vices; creating optimistic laughter and educational meaning.
