Playing on the Jalan Besar artificial field, the Vietnamese team was deadlocked throughout the official match. However, entering the extra time, two goals from Tien Linh (minute 90+11) and Xuan Son (minute 90+14) helped coach Kim Sang-sik and his team win 2-0. This was a big advantage for the "Golden Star Warriors" when the second leg of the semi-final was played at the home stadium of Viet Tri (Phu Tho).
After the hard-fought victory over Singapore, captain Duy Manh shared: “The Vietnamese team fought hard and followed the coaching staff’s tactics. Although there were difficult moments, we overcame them. This is a well-deserved victory for the whole team.”
Duy Manh is also determined to win the second leg to reach the final of the AFF Cup 2024. He expressed: "We will try to play well to achieve the goal of winning the championship like 6 years ago. It will not be easy, but we will concentrate."
Duy Manh affirmed that he wants to win the championship with the Vietnam team like the AFF Cup 2018.
Notably, in addition to the goal in the 90+14th minute, Xuan Son also made Vietnamese fans regret when his masterpiece was denied. In the 84th minute, after a throw-in on the left wing, Xuan Son had a good control situation and then turned around to shoot very quickly, hitting the net of goalkeeper Manbud. However, after nearly 5 minutes of consulting VAR, the referee judged that Xuan Son let the ball touch his hand and denied the goal.
Regarding Xuan Son's disallowed goal, Duy Manh revealed: "I went to Xuan Son's side and comforted him. Xuan Son played passionately and bravely. Xuan Son told me about the disallowed goal, that it was a legal move, the ball touched his chest, not his hand. It's a pity that the referee disallowed the goal after consulting VAR. However, we all have to respect the referee."
Xuan Son's super goal was denied in the 84th minute.
After the first leg, the Vietnamese team will have about 3 days to prepare before the second leg, taking place at 8:00 p.m. on December 29 at Viet Tri Stadium.
