Road to Phan Thiet airport completed: A step to create momentum for aviation infrastructure development

According to the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Investor), the project started in January 2024 and has been basically completed. The road to the airport has a total length of 3.63km, a roadbed width of 36m, a road surface width of 13.5m, a median strip width of 12.5m, and a sidewalk width of 5m on each side. This route also has synchronous construction of sidewalks, drainage systems, trees, lighting, and fire-fighting water supply with a total investment of about 117.9 billion VND, drawn from the provincial budget, with an implementation period of 4 years, from 2023 to 2026.

Binh Thuan is a locality located in a strategic area with an important position in terms of national security and defense and has potential for tourism development. Investment in airport construction contributes significantly to attracting many projects, solving the travel needs of the people as well as the general development of the local economy - society, security - defense and the surrounding areas. Investment in traffic connection infrastructure and access roads to the airport is urgent, an important step to create momentum when the Phan Thiet airport project is formed and put into operation.

When the traffic is connected, Binh Thuan will become a key province in the region for tourism and services.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hien - Deputy Head of the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, said: During the construction process, although there were difficulties in compensation and site clearance, the Management Board coordinated with the locality and relevant departments to promptly resolve them. The investment in the Phan Thiet Airport Access Road project will connect Phan Thiet Airport with the regional traffic system, serving to maximize the exploitation of civil aviation functions and national security and defense. At the same time, it will create urban land along both sides of the road, gradually complete the traffic infrastructure, urban embellishment, and contribute to promoting the socio-economic development of Binh Thuan .

Expressing his joy when the project was completed, local people could travel smoothly on this route, Mr. Do Ngoc Hoa - Chairman of Thien Nghiep Commune People's Committee added: "With the explanation and mobilization of local authorities and functional agencies, people whose land was subject to clearance and compensation all agreed, contributing to speeding up the project's completion. When traffic is opened, Thien Nghiep Commune in particular and Phan Thiet City in general will benefit, especially promoting the service and tourism industry in this suburban area to develop more and more".

Recently, the news that the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province and Vietnam Airlines Corporation (Vietnam Airlines) held a signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement for the period 2025 - 2030 is really good news and full of hope for Binh Thuan. Because when Vietnam Airlines opens flights to Binh Thuan, it will not only help expand the aviation connection network, but also support the promotion of Binh Thuan's image to domestic and international friends. Therefore, the operation of Phan Thiet airport will create a boost to help the province connect faster with major economic centers at home and abroad.

The investment in the Phan Thiet Airport Access Road project will connect Phan Thiet Airport with the regional transportation system.

Phan Thiet Airport started construction in January 2015. Up to now, the military items being built by the Air Defense - Air Force have been put into military flight operation in early August 2024. The civil item in particular has been adjusted from a level 4C airport to a level 4E airport with a runway length of 3,050m and a passenger terminal with a designed capacity of 2 million passengers/year. Currently, Binh Thuan province is promoting the selection of a replacement investor to soon restart the civil airport item according to regulations.

The Phan Thiet Airport Access Road Project, along with other infrastructure projects under construction and completion, promises to form a seamless transport network that will help Binh Thuan accelerate strongly. When the transport is connected, Binh Thuan will become a key province in the region for tourism and services, contributing to double-digit economic growth in the near future.
