(NADS) - Ton Duc Thang Street from Khanh Hoi Bridge to Ba Son Bridge (Thu Thiem 2), District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, often experiences traffic congestion. The main reason is that there are too many pedestrian crossings, creating diagonal routes and obstructing traffic flow, contributing to increasing difficulties in traffic regulation.

On Ton Duc Thang Street, from Khanh Hoi Bridge to Ba Son Bridge (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), serious traffic jams often occur.

People are frustrated and tired every time they have to participate in traffic on this road. Especially, during rush hour, from 7am to 9am and from 3pm to 6pm, traffic congestion on this road is always serious. Groups of motorbikes, cars, buses... jostle, line up closely together, inching forward.

Many residents said that the cause of traffic congestion in this area is due to too many pedestrian crossings.

"While driving, I saw the car in front stop, so I had to stop to wait for a pedestrian to cross the street. Then I moved forward. After going about 10 meters, I had to stop again to give a pedestrian the way ahead. Sometimes when driving through this section, I had to stop 5-6 times; I don't understand why the city's traffic management agency drew so many crosswalks. Right in front of the Tran Hung Dao statue across the wharf, there were also 2 crosswalks drawn. It would have been fine to just draw a crosswalk here. Could it be that they had "too much paper to draw an elephant", Mr. TH Tuan, a tourist car driver (District 1) was upset.

"Too many crosswalks make it difficult to move, delay and disrupt the movement of vehicles, affecting the city's traffic," said Tran Thi Hien (District 4).

Mr. HCChinh shared that he felt tired when going through this road, motorbikes can still squeeze in but 4-wheel vehicles always have to move little by little, especially during rush hour, pedestrians have to cross the road, so other road users have to give way, traffic jams are more likely to happen. He just hopes that there will be a feasible solution to reduce traffic jams, and hopes that there will be a pedestrian bridge soon.

According to the reporter, this road is about 1km long but has more than 7 lanes with pedestrian crossings. Each lane is about 100m apart. Some of them have traffic lights for pedestrians to press themselves.

“Today I went up here to play and visit, I saw other people crossing the street so I crossed too. Because I just came up here, there were many cars so I was scared.” PTNSang said.

“I feel quite upset and uncomfortable every time I pass this section of road, people park their cars haphazardly, people walk across the street from the walking street to Bach Dang Wharf. The road is small, there are many big vehicles, especially the double-decker buses that travel on the road, taking up a lot of space. Especially on holidays, the road is small and there is no navigation, people drive their cars up on the sidewalk to compete to go home.” Mr. PNTHai shared (a person who often travels on Ton Duc Thang street).

Traffic on this road is not easy. Every day, the number of people participating in traffic on Ton Duc Thang Street is continuous and unceasing. The heavy traffic, stopping at traffic signals, and pedestrian crossings in the section from Bach Dang Wharf to Thu Thiem 2 Bridge can be considered one of the causes of frequent traffic jams.

According to information, the Ho Chi Minh City government is planning to build a pedestrian bridge in this area. However, to temporarily solve the traffic congestion problem on this road, the city should take measures to minimize the number of pedestrian crossings.
