Heavy rain from last night to this morning in Vu Quang ( Ha Tinh ) caused some sections of the railway through Duc Lien commune to have serious landslides; flash floods appeared in Duc Huong commune.

Prolonged heavy rain caused serious landslides on the North-South railway line at Km 354+900 to Km 355+400 through Lien Chau village (Duc Lien commune). Thousands of cubic meters of soil were eroded and flowed down Ngan Sau river.

According to the leader of Duc Lien Commune People's Committee, due to the landslide on the railway, trains cannot operate. The repair is expected to take several days. The locality has also informed the leaders of the railway management unit and the district People's Committee to have a plan to repair the situation as soon as possible to restore the railway to traffic.

Mr. Le Van Hung - Chairman of Duc Lien Commune People's Committee informed: "The commune has directed relevant units to barricade dangerous areas; at the same time, mobilized vehicles and forces to urgently fix the incident to ensure safety for people passing by."

According to local leaders, flash floods have caused some houses to lose their properties and soil to settle in their gardens.

On the inter-commune road, the section passing through Huong Giang village (Duc Huong commune) also had landslides at some points.

Mr. Pham Quoc Bao - Chairman of Duc Huong Commune People's Committee said: "Immediately after receiving the information, the locality dispatched officials and forces to support families affected by flash floods last night. Heavy rain is forecast to continue, so the locality will arrange forces to be on duty at key points regularly to minimize damage caused by floods."

In order to proactively respond to the complicated developments of heavy rain, the People's Committee of Vu Quang district has requested localities and units to prepare and deploy plans to prevent heavy rain from causing flash floods on rivers and streams, inundation and landslides in mountainous areas. Resolutely direct the evacuation of people in areas at high risk of flash floods and landslides, especially riverbank landslides such as in the communes of Duc Lien, Duc Giang, Duc Lien...; acacia plantation areas, steep slopes with high risk of landslides and flash floods in the communes of Quang Tho, Huong Minh...

In addition, the district has also assigned staff to specifically monitor areas at high risk of natural disasters and proactively deploy appropriate response plans. Prepare plans to reserve food and essential necessities to respond to natural disasters...
