Fake medicine production line just busted: Targeting the elderly to buy cheap medicine

According to the initial investigation results of Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, the ring has existed for 4 years, taking advantage of people's habit of buying medicine for themselves (without a doctor's prescription) and their lack of knowledge when learning about the origin of medicine.

At the same time, this hotline targets the elderly who need to buy and use medicines that treat bone and joint diseases, pain, and numbness at low prices, suitable for the income of the elderly.

In addition, the defendants took advantage of loopholes in state management of pharmaceutical business activities at drugstores and pharmacies.

From then on, defendant Nguyen Tien Dat, 34 years old, residing in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi , led the conspiracy with Trinh Doan Giao, 40 years old, residing in Binh Tan district, Ho Chi Minh City, to produce and trade fake medicine.

After investing in production lines and machinery, this group of defendants ordered raw materials such as pharmaceuticals, medicinal herbs, and herbs of unknown origin, hired workers to mix and grind them into powder, used machines to form capsules, blister packs, and packaged the finished fake drugs, then sold them to the market through distribution channels.

According to Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, the method used by the defendants is that for bone and joint medicine, this group did not counterfeit the available products circulating on the market but instead created their own drug names and the names of the drug manufacturing companies headquartered in... foreign countries. This easily confuses consumers, so they are willing to spend money to buy fake medicine.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on the evening of April 16, the Economic Police Department of Thanh Hoa Province Police said it had just dismantled a large-scale counterfeit medicine production and trading ring; initiated a case and prosecuted 14 defendants for the crime of "producing and trading counterfeit disease prevention and treatment drugs".

This line is led and operated by Nguyen Tien Dat and Trinh Doan Giao.

Thanh Hoa Provincial Police searched 6 locations where fake medicine was produced, worked, and hidden in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, An Giang, and Dong Thap.

Nearly 10 tons of fake medicine and fake medicine ingredients seized

In connection with this case, the police seized 21 types of modern medicine and fake bone and joint medicine, including: 44 boxes of Tetracycline; 40 boxes of Clorocid; 49 boxes of Pharcoter; 52 boxes of Neo-Codion; 1,232 boxes of Numbness and Pain Pills; and 4,122 boxes of Tui Hua Shen Jing Tong.

2,285 boxes of Cordyceps ginseng velvet tonic spleen and stomach tonic; 1,923 boxes of Profeessor's Pill; 5,172 boxes of Mujarhabat Capsule; 2,017 boxes of Gai cot hoan; 930 boxes of Toa cot thien ma thong phong hoan; 6,612 boxes of Tuyet lien thien ma bao khop hoan.

1,014 boxes of Bach Xa Vuong pain relief medicine; 4,743 boxes of Ho Cot Hoan pain relief medicine; 845 boxes of sinus pain relief medicine; 4,012 boxes of Cot shoulder pills; 2,413 boxes of Yuan Bone medicine; 834 boxes of Thoai Cot Hoan plus medicine; 515 boxes of Degenerative joint pain relief medicine plus; 657 boxes of Degenerative joint pain relief medicine.

The police also seized raw materials for producing counterfeit drugs, including: more than 18,000 boxes of various types, 142kg of pills, tablets, powders, and many production machines and equipment such as presses, blister molds, adhesive tape, etc.

The total mass of fake medicine and raw materials to produce fake medicine is nearly 10 tons.
