The 500kV national power transmission system grid has an incident - Photo: EVNNPT
Information just released by the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) shows that at 2:16 p.m. on April 23, a transient incident occurred on the 500kV Vinh Tan (Binh Thuan) - Tan Uyen ( Binh Duong ) power transmission line.
500kV grid failure restored in 15 minutes
This incident caused grid fluctuations, causing overvoltage in some areas.
EVNNPT said that immediately after the incident occurred, the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company Limited (NSMO) coordinated with operating units under the National Power Transmission Corporation and a number of power units to quickly fix the problem.
The transmission system has been restored to normal operation, with no damage to equipment reported. Most affected loads were restored within about 15 minutes.
Information from NSMO also said that the incident was quickly resolved, normal operation was restored, and power was restored to the loads of the national power system.
Specifically, the system recorded incidents on the 500kV lines connecting the national power system with the Vinh Tan and Van Phong Thermal Power Centers and clusters of renewable energy power plants in the area, causing power outages at the 500kV Vinh Tan, Thuan Nam and Van Phong transformer stations...
Due to the impact of the incident, some coal-fired thermal power plants in the South were suddenly stopped and renewable energy sources reduced generation.
To protect and stabilize the power system frequency, the low frequency protection function is automatically activated according to the calculation scenarios, shedding the load on the power system.
Restart the unit and restore renewable sources
Immediately after the incident, NSMO coordinated with the handling units and promptly directed the regional power system dispatch centers and distribution power system dispatch centers of the power corporations to urgently restore the load.
Accordingly, within about 15 minutes, the basic power system was restored to normal operation and re-energized the loads of the national power system.
In a statement, NSMO said it had directed regional transmission units and power plants to re-energize power lines to provide self-use power to power plants with problems, support the restart of coal-fired thermal power plants, and quickly restore renewable energy sources.
As of 4:30 p.m. the same day, NSMO had basically completed the work of energizing the relevant transformer stations, adjusting the power source to match the increased load demand during peak hours in the evening and bringing the national power system back to a stable operating state.
The National Power System Control Authority affirmed that it will continue to closely monitor the operation of the power system, strengthen supervision and closely coordinate with relevant units to proactively respond, ensuring the national power system is operated safely, continuously and reliably.
EVNNPT and NSMO both expressed their wish to receive sympathy and sharing from electricity customers regarding the above-mentioned power supply interruption incident.
