According to initial investigation, on the afternoon of May 26, the Traffic Police Department of Tien Giang Province Police received a report from the Provincial Police about a 7-seat vehicle suspected of being involved in a motorbike theft in Cai Rang District, Can Tho City, traveling on National Highway 1, heading towards Ho Chi Minh City.
Through the report, the police identified two subjects: 1 on a motorbike, 1 on a car with license plate 51G 171.59.

The Traffic Police Department deployed forces to block and intercept the suspect on National Highway 1 (through Thanh Phu Commune, Chau Thanh District). At around 3:00 p.m. the same day, the police discovered the car running from My Thuan to Trung Luong.
The traffic police signaled to stop and check the vehicle, but the driver did not comply and continued to accelerate and flee. The traffic police made a reasonable arrangement, causing the subject's car to be sandwiched between the container truck and the passenger bus.

The police took the young man in the car to the police station. A pistol and an iron rod were found in the car.
Initially, the driver identified himself as Vo Hong Phong (37 years old, residing in Ngoc Chuc commune, Giong Rieng district, Kien Giang). Phong stated that he had hired a self-driving car to take his accomplices from Ho Chi Minh City to the Western provinces to steal motorbikes.
