From the incident of a preschool child being forgotten on a bus in Thai Binh, it can be seen that if adults pay attention to every small problem on the bus, they will never forget any child.

The story of a kindergarten child being forgotten in a car by a school that happened on May 29 in Thai Binh reminded many people of a sad story from more than 4 years ago. That was a first grader who died after being forgotten in a car on the first day of school in Hanoi.
As a caregiver and educator, I feel very sad and helpless about the current unsafe situation for children. In a broader perspective, this is just one of the incidents that shows the irresponsibility of adults affecting the lives of children. Many cases of children having accidents and drowning also stem from the irresponsibility of adults.
It was thought that the case of a first grader who died after being forgotten on a school bus in Hanoi in 2019 was a lesson in hindsight. However, in recent times, there have been cases of students being forgotten in Bac Ninh, Hanoi... Fortunately, the incident was discovered early and the child was saved. And then, the story was "sunk" again... Until the incident of a child in Thai Binh being forgotten on a school bus and dying, is it necessary to review the awareness and responsibility of those who have the duty to care for and protect children?
Many questions are raised such as who is responsible for this? First of all, the responsibility for caring for and educating children belongs to parents and schools. Here, how did the school and parents coordinate with each other so that in the end, forgetting children in the car still happened? It must also be clearly recognized that the care and protection of children in many schools today has many problems.
Obviously, childcare and education facilities need to review this issue. If safety for children cannot be guaranteed when traveling by car, should this method be allowed to exist? The process of picking up and dropping off children is "clogged" and the one who suffers is a child. Obviously, if a child "slips through" like that, where is the responsibility of the person picking up and dropping off the child in that very car? This is just a story of picking up and dropping off children.
So, during the transportation, do the children wear seat belts? Are they guaranteed safety during the process? Or if they have a health problem, who will take care of it?
Because, if adults pay attention to every little problem on the bus, they will never forget any child. Children are not goods that can be "thrown" onto the bus and "thrown down" like... cargo boxes. Getting off the bus is not strictly managed, children are not counted, and handover is not done seriously, leading to a shortage of children without anyone knowing.
If only the driver had the luxury of checking all seats before closing the car door.
If the person picking up the children had taken attendance before getting on and off the bus, counted the number of signatures of parents when handing over the children, and counted the number of children, then there would not have been a shortage of children getting off the bus like this.
If only the person picking up the child would make a move to check the car before leaving.
If only the teacher would contact the family when they found out that a student was absent. Just one phone call or one text message could save a child’s life. In fact, if the child is forgotten and discovered early, the consequences would not be so serious. But if the time is too long, even a whole day, the consequences would certainly be dire.
If only all involved had the responsibility to count the children every 5-10 minutes during bus trips and field trips, then this unfortunate incident would never have happened. One hour, two hours, the longer the distance, the greater the consequences.
If only the process of picking up and dropping off children was taken care of and controlled to avoid laxity.
If only there were regular surprise inspections from the authorities regarding childcare procedures.
Countless “if onlys” cannot save a child’s life when every safety measure taken by the caregivers is ignored. Not even a final check by any adult before exiting the vehicle is made.
That is to say, children need adults to be aware and show love. It seems that there are too many cumbersome steps in child management. Because it is too cumbersome, it is like “no one cares about public property” and the consequences are very serious.
The prosecution of those involved will certainly make schools raise awareness and responsibility in the stages of picking up, handing over and managing students, and cross-checking also needs to be carried out seriously. But the important thing is that protecting children must be a top priority. When a heartbreaking incident occurs, we cannot take responsibility, but then go back to the way things were. Because, just a little bit of inattention or negligence will also pose risks to the children. In addition, there must also be serious and deterrent penalties for schools that leave behind serious consequences.
When education is "commercialized", stories like this will happen. If we care more about commercial issues than about educational values, the ones who will suffer will definitely be the children.
In fact, nowadays, to meet the demand, many schools have sprung up, however, the educational value for children has not been given attention and priority. When education is still left to float in advertising issues, communicating the school's values to parents, education is considered a business, then the problem of indifference will certainly occur.
Education and healthcare are very specific professions. Therefore, countries seek to limit the impact of money on educational institutions to avoid cases where money manipulates quality; thus, issues such as teachers' dedication to children cannot be controlled.
At this time, raising awareness of adults in protecting children is important, not dealing with the situation in a reactive manner. Do not let the irresponsibility, negligence, or mistakes of adults threaten the safety and happiness of children.

According to the initial report of the investigation agency, at 6:20 a.m. on May 29, driver NVL and teacher PQA were responsible for picking up preschool children from home to Hong Nhung Kindergarten, campus 2, located in Phu Xuan commune, Thai Binh city. TGH (born in 2019, residing in Minh Khai commune, Vu Thu district, Thai Binh province) was picked up and taken to the bus with his friends. At 5:00 p.m. the same day, H.'s relatives came to pick him up, but did not see him, so they reported it to the school. Everyone organized a search and discovered that H. was still on the school bus, parked outside the school gate. Immediately after that, the child was taken to Thai Binh Provincial General Hospital for emergency treatment but died. That same night, the Investigation Police Agency of Thai Binh City Police issued a decision to prosecute the case of “Involuntary manslaughter”. Thai Binh Province also requested specialized units to promptly issue documents to direct and rectify the activities of picking up, dropping off, and managing children at kindergartens in the area. |
