On the afternoon of April 28, speaking with Thanh Nien reporters, Colonel Tran Tuan Anh, Commander of the Quang Ngai Provincial Border Guard Command, said that authorities have temporarily stopped searching for five missing people in the sinking of a barge tugboat in the waters of Ly Son (Quang Ngai).
"Although the search is temporarily suspended, we still instruct local fishing boats and ships to immediately report any suspicious signs or floating bodies to the authorities. At the same time, we have directed the Ly Son Border Guard Station to increase patrols and controls along the coast," said Colonel Tran Tuan Anh.

When departing from Ky Ha port (Quang Nam), there were 5 crew members registered to work on the tugboat and barge, including: Pham Van Hiep, Dang Minh Phuong, Vo Tan Khuong, Vo Van Nhieu and Bui Minh Tri. When the tugboat and barge sank at sea, the authorities and their families were still unable to contact these people.
Immediately after the accident, search and rescue forces mobilized additional vehicles and forces to expand the search area for the missing victims. Seven ships participated in the search, including five specialized ships and two passenger ships. The search area spanned approximately 66 nautical miles.
The capsized barge was towed near Ly Son Island to serve the investigation.
In addition, the search force also issued a notice requesting cargo ships and fishing boats operating in Quang Ngai waters to coordinate the search and rescue. At the same time, two unmanned aerial vehicles were used to search around Ly Son Island. A team of divers was also mobilized to continue searching the sunken barge. The Quang Ngai provincial border guards also organized an all-night search, but so far there have been no results.
As Thanh Nien reported, on the morning of April 24, ship LA-06695 towed barge LA-06883 from Ky Ha port (Quang Nam) to Ly Son island district (Quang Ngai). When reaching the sea area about 4 nautical miles from Ly Son island, an accident occurred, causing both the tugboat and the barge to sink. Authorities discovered 4 bodies near the location of the accident. The sunken barge was towed to shore, the tugboat remained submerged in the sea.
Authorities determined that tugboat LA-06695 towing barge LA-06883 completed procedures to leave Ky Ha port at 10:00 a.m. on April 23 and departed at 11:30 a.m. the same day. The cargo on the barge was boulders transported from Ky Ha port to Ly Son island to serve the construction of the Ben Dinh port breakwater.
