Instead of worrying and wondering, young people need to equip themselves with good professional knowledge and soft skills; choose a career that suits their qualities and passion.

Experts advised students like that at the 2025 Admissions and Career Counseling Day held at Hanoi University of Science and Technology on March 16.
The festival was organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), the Hanoi Department of Education and Training and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, with the support of Vingroup Corporation.
Many concerns about choosing a major and admission
Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong, Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), introduced a new and interesting concept, "robot journalist", with strengths such as fast information processing and easy dissemination of information on a wide platform.
However, Ms. Huong believes that "robot journalists" cannot replace humans because in Vietnam, the responsibility of a journalist is not simply to report news but also to criticize policies, orient information, social responsibility, and responsibility to the community. Therefore, journalists need a deep understanding to report truthfully, serving humanistic goals, for the community.
"Technology development also brings negative aspects such as information interference, information dissemination, and fake images. This is a challenge for the media industry. But because of that, the role of true journalists is even more necessary," Ms. Huong emphasized.
Unlike the fear that AI will "swallow" industries such as foreign languages, communications, and even some traditional industries in the economic group such as accounting and auditing, consultants reassure candidates that "one door closing will open many other doors".
Dr. Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong, Vice Principal of Hanoi University, said that if only translating, AI can handle it extremely well. However, the current trend of training foreign language groups has changed compared to before. Along with equipping foreign languages, schools also equip specific specialized knowledge. Foreign languages are closely linked to very specific fields and professions.
With this trend, job opportunities are not only not lost but on the contrary, they are increasing very high. Ms. Phuong cited industries such as teaching, media or especially tourism with many prospects in the near future due to the increasing number of foreign tourists coming to Vietnam.
Representing the economic sector, two members of the advisory board at the festival, MSc. Pham Thanh Ha (Foreign Trade University) and Dr. Le Anh Duc (National Economics University), also said that the current trend of interdisciplinary training opens up new majors combining economics and technology. Learners are equipped with knowledge of economics and have the ability to use technology to analyze data, build strategies, and orient in the fields of economics and business.
Some candidates from Hanoi expressed their concern that the current context of streamlining and merging will cause some job positions to have surplus labor. One candidate asked directly: "Will journalism students be unemployed when many press agencies are currently shutting down or merging?" This was a rather "tricky" question for the advisory board members.
According to Ms. Dang Thi Thu Huong, studying communications is not just about journalism because this is a very broad field and has many diverse job positions. Not only in Vietnam but also in the world, communications is still a "hot" field. Similarly, another field, psychology, is also being trained in depth with many small branches to meet the needs in many specific areas of life.
Experts say that instead of worrying and wondering, young people should try to equip themselves with good professional knowledge and soft skills to have the opportunity to choose a job or change jobs in the future. And it will be easier to succeed if you choose a career that suits your qualities and passion.

Concerned about the new program
Some candidates in Hanoi expressed concerns about the fact that the new high school program only allows students to choose a number of subjects (in the optional group), but currently, if they want to register for a number of majors related to the group of subjects not taught in high school, will they be accepted and what difficulties will they face when entering the school?
A parent asked: "If I don't study physics, chemistry, or biology but take an aptitude test that includes physics, chemistry, or biology, will the results be accepted for university admission using the aptitude test results?"
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, said that in order to create conditions and ensure fairness for candidates in all regions and areas across the country to access university admission methods, the Ministry of Education and Training does not limit the number of admission methods/combinations of training institutions. In addition to traditional admission combinations, schools can have new combinations.
"By converting admission methods to a common admission score to consider from top to bottom until the quota is full, instead of dividing the quota for each method, it will ensure fairness for candidates," Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung emphasized this year's new point.
Concerned about whether it is possible to take the aptitude and thinking test without studying, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of the Training and Student Affairs Department (Hanoi National University) and Associate Professor Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of the Admissions and Career Guidance Department (Hanoi University of Science and Technology), said that candidates who meet the requirements for the aptitude and thinking test can take the test. However, how the test results and accompanying conditions are used in the admission process depends on the admission plan of each training institution.
A candidate was concerned about "not studying chemistry and biology in high school, can I study a major with chemistry and biology knowledge in university", Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai said that candidates who have not studied chemistry and biology but pass the entrance exam to a major that requires basic knowledge of chemistry and biology at Hanoi University of Science and Technology will have to take some additional courses such as general biology and general chemistry before studying specialized courses. Thus, the opportunities are very open to candidates, as long as they are determined.
High School Graduation Exam 2025: Pay attention to questions related to reality
Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), said that this year's high school graduation exam closely follows the high school education program, mainly the content of the 12th grade program and the content that continues from grades 10, 11 to grade 12. Differentiating questions will be those that require students to relate to reality and solve practical life problems.
Professor Ha advised students to practice deductive thinking and make connections with reality during their review to take advantage of the opportunity to score points in this group of questions. Professor Ha also noted that with this year's regulation of the Ministry of Education and Training, the high school graduation exam score will have 50% of the high school study score, so studying properly and sufficiently to ensure the program's requirements is very important.
* Mr. Hoang Minh Son (Deputy Minister of Education and Training):
Important events
Tuoi Tre Newspaper's admission and career counseling program has become an important event in annual career education and admission in Vietnam.
This year's Admissions and Career Counseling Day in Hanoi attracted the participation of nearly 20,000 students, nearly 90 universities, colleges, and secondary schools, nearly 300 counseling booths, and many students and parents watching online.
This is not only a testament to the program's appeal, but also demonstrates the deep concern of the whole society for career orientation and preparation for the young generation - the core force in building and developing the country in the future.
Over the past two decades, many press agencies have coordinated with higher education institutions to organize recruitment and career guidance activities, and the Recruitment and Career Guidance Day of Tuoi Tre Newspaper is a typical example, playing an important role in supporting students to make the right choices about their career and study path.
Millions of students across the country have had access to official, reliable information about the high school graduation exam, university and college admission methods, and career trends in the context of a constantly changing society.
Admissions and career counseling not only help students better understand their interests and abilities, but also reduce the situation of choosing the wrong major or school, causing a waste of effort for the family and society.
More importantly, admissions and career counseling work contributes to shaping students' thinking towards being proactive, confident, and responsible for their own future.
* Do Huyen Trang (12th grade student at Co Loa High School, Hanoi):
I am very assured
The admissions and career counseling program is very important and meaningful to us. I have been waiting for this event for a long time, hoping to directly listen to official admissions and career counseling information from all schools.
In recent days, searching for admission information online has made me feel very "noisy", not knowing which information is new and accurate. At the same time, the information that AI development can replace many job positions makes me confused.
I am currently very concerned about the admission methods of universities and the training programs of accounting, finance and banking... When I came to the fair, I was consulted by teachers about the study program and future job opportunities. Especially, when I heard teachers say that AI can only support work, not replace humans, I was very reassured.
* Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Thi Thu Huong (Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi):
Interactive environment, direct exchange
Currently, students and parents have many sources of admission information on online platforms, but the public still needs accurate advice and reliable sources of information. This is the reason why many students and parents eagerly wait for Tuoi Tre Newspaper's Admissions and Career Guidance Day every year.
Thanks to the program, students and parents can interact directly with training institutions, meet teachers directly to ask for more information needed for each specific case; this is also a forum for direct dialogue between leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, representatives of units organizing separate exams, representatives of universities and parents and students. This is also the strength of the program that online information cannot replace.
In fact, candidates sometimes come to the festival not only need official information, but also need to interact, exchange, share concerns and worries with friends and teachers; to understand the mentality of their peers, thereby relieving psychological pressure for themselves.
