Stop extracurricular activities, consider letting students stay home from school in areas affected by storms and floods

Telegram No. 1225/CD-BGDDT of the Minister of Education and Training sent to the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa.

The dispatch stated that, according to the bulletin of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the tropical depression is likely to strengthen into a storm, directly affecting the sea and mainland, causing strong gusts of wind and heavy rain in the Central Central and North Central regions in the coming days.

To be proactive and flexible in responding to the storm, ensuring absolute safety for students, teachers and staff in the education sector, the Minister of Education and Training requested the Directors of the Departments of Education and Training of the above provinces and cities to closely monitor the storm's developments; be on duty 24/7; regularly update information from competent agencies, rescue forces and local authorities to have timely response plans.

Units urgently develop plans to relocate assets, machinery, equipment, tables and chairs to safe places, ensuring no damage or breakdown; Ensure that schools and educational institutions do not organize extracurricular activities in coastal areas and areas at risk of being affected by storms.

The Ministry of Education and Training recommends that Departments of Education and Training consider allowing students to take time off from school when necessary, especially in areas vulnerable to storms and floods; Ensure that information about school schedules and student safety is fully communicated to parents. Immediately after the storm, organize cleaning of classrooms, repair damage to facilities, and ensure safety and hygiene before welcoming students back to school.

The Ministry of Education and Training also requires the Departments to continuously update information, summarize the damage and develop a plan to report to the Provincial People's Committee for remediation, and at the same time report to the Ministry.
