Duc Tien: 'I choose to live a quiet life'

Actor Duc Tien said he no longer wants to be famous or make money, choosing a quiet life to have time with his wife and children.

On the occasion of returning to the big screen after 12 years with the movie Fragile Flower , the artist talks about work and life in America.

- Why did you accept to act again after a period of absence?

- For the past 11 years, I have focused on my work as a program host and event organizer in the US. Director Mai Thu Huyen came to find me and showed me the script. The film's salary was high but that was not the reason I accepted. The project was filmed and post-produced entirely in the US, making it convenient for me to arrange my schedule. I found the film's content to be close to the lives of Vietnamese people in the US in particular and overseas. I like to play a character with many facets, with a clear personality and destiny. I spent a month following the crew around the state of California to film scenes.

The character in Fragile Flower has many similarities with me, so it was not difficult to get into character. After more than ten years in the profession, I am confident that I have enough experience and ability to act well. Due to moving around a lot, I was stressed and gained about 6 kg, so the image on film was not as perfect as I wanted.

- How does your wife - Miss Binh Phuong - support her husband in this comeback?

- She supports me in every decision. Because of the nature of my work, I am often away from home, but Binh Phuong is always sympathetic and never asks for details. I am proud to have a life partner who is both beautiful and gentle, and understanding. In addition, the film was filmed in California, where I also live, so I don't have to be far from my wife and children.

When I was with the film crew, I ate irregularly and often came home late at night. Afraid that my husband would be hungry, Binh Phuong always prepared food.

- How compatible are you and your wife in married life?

When we were together, we realized that none of the pieces fit right from the start. Each person needed to sharpen and gradually discard their egos to become more in tune. We also shared a passion for healthy living such as traveling. On weekends, my wife and I often organized picnics, camping overnight in tents, and waking up in the morning to watch the sunrise at the beach.

- How is your life in America now?

- I opened a media company in the US over a year ago. On weekends, if I don't have to host shows, I clean the house, garden, and cook with my wife and children.

I choose a quiet lifestyle because I want to have more time with my family. I play with my child - Cat (four years old), witnessing her growing up every day. I am afraid that if I keep working, making money, pursuing fame and glory, I will miss many opportunities to be with my child. Especially when my child is a teenager, it is not easy to be close to her because her psychology changes, she thinks independently, and no longer listens to her parents. For many years, I have not worked partly because I want to focus on the "golden period" - the first 10 years of my child's life.

I taught my child to be independent from the age of three, such as brushing his teeth and cleaning up his toys. I also tried to avoid exposing him to negative environments and limited the amount of photos he posted on social media.

- What does acting mean to you now?

- I currently live mainly on business, but when I return to the screen, I am satisfied with the role and what I have done with the film crew. Acting is still a great spiritual support for me. When I spent a month transforming into director Dang in Doa hoa mong manh , I felt like I was living with the character's emotions and happy when standing in front of the camera.

I am satisfied with my current life so I do not seek too much. My daughter is in school so my husband and I have more time for each other. In the near future, I will also participate in several film projects filmed in the US and Vietnam.

Duc Tien and his wife welcomed their first child in July 2020, after 10 years of marriage. He was born in 1980, was famous in the modeling industry in the 2000s, won the Model Star gold cup in Korea in 2010, and also acted in many TV series such as Return, Pearl Island Love Story, My Husband's Wife . In 2013, he moved to the US to settle down.
