Actor Duc Tien says he no longer desires fame or money, choosing a quiet life to spend time with his wife and children.
Returning to the big screen after 12 years with the film "Fragile Flower ," the artist talks about her work and life in America.
- Why did you agree to return to acting after a period of absence?
- For the past 11 years, I've focused on hosting and organizing events in the US. Director Mai Thu Huyen approached me and showed me the script. The high fee wasn't the reason I accepted the role. The project was filmed and post-produced entirely in the US, which was convenient for me in terms of scheduling. I found the film's content relatable to the lives of Vietnamese people in the US, as well as overseas. I enjoyed playing a multifaceted character with a clear personality and destiny. I spent a month traveling with the crew throughout California to film scenes.
The character in "Fragile Flower" shares many similarities with me, so it wasn't difficult to get into character. With over a decade of experience in the profession, I'm confident I have enough experience and ability to perform well. Due to frequent travel, I experienced stress and gained about 6 kg, so my on-screen appearance wasn't as perfect as I'd hoped.

- How does your wife, beauty queen Binh Phuong, support you in this comeback?
- She supports me in every decision. Because of the nature of my work, I'm often away from home, but Binh Phuong is always understanding and never asks about the details. I'm proud to have a life partner who is both beautiful and kind, and who is so understanding. Furthermore, the filming location in California is where I live, so I don't have to be far from my wife and children.
While filming, I had irregular eating habits and often returned home late at night. Fearing her husband would be hungry, Binh Phuong always prepared food for him.
- How compatible are you and your wife in your married life?
When we were together, we realized that no two pieces fit perfectly from the start. Each person needed to refine themselves, gradually shedding their ego to become more harmonious. We also share healthy lifestyle interests like traveling . On weekends, my wife and I often organize picnics, camping overnight in tents, and waking up to watch the sunrise at the beach.

- How is your life in America right now?
- I've been running a media company in the US for over a year now. On weekends, if I'm not hosting shows, I clean the house, garden, and cook with my wife and children.
I chose a quiet lifestyle because I wanted to spend more time with my family. I enjoy playing with my daughter, Mèo (four years old), and witnessing her growth every day. I'm afraid that if I'm too focused on work, making money, chasing fame and glory, I'll miss many opportunities with my child. Especially when she enters her teenage years, it won't be easy to be close to her because her psychology changes, she becomes independent, and no longer listens to her parents. For many years, I haven't worked, partly because I wanted to focus on the "golden period"—the first 10 years of my child's life.
I started teaching my child independence from the age of three, such as brushing their teeth and tidying up their toys. I also try to avoid exposing them to negative environments and limit posting pictures of them on social media.

- What does acting mean to you?
- Currently, I mainly make a living from my business, but upon returning to the screen, I am satisfied with the role and what I have accomplished with the film crew. Acting remains a great source of emotional support for me. When I spent a month embodying Director Dang in "Fragile Flower ," I felt I was living with the character's emotions and was happy to stand in front of the camera.
I'm content with my current life and don't aspire to too much. My daughter is in school, so my wife and I have more time for each other. I'll also be participating in a few film projects soon, being shot in both the US and Vietnam.
Duc Tien and his wife welcomed their first child in July 2020, after 10 years of marriage. Born in 1980, he rose to fame in the modeling industry in the 2000s, winning the Model Star gold trophy in South Korea in 2010, and also acting in many television dramas such as "Returning Home," "Love Story on Pearl Island," and "My Husband's Wife ." In 2013, he moved to the United States to settle down.
