The project to expand the new treatment area has relocated and expanded departments that are overloaded with patients, such as: stroke department, interventional cardiology, chest, operating room area, surgical resuscitation area, etc.

Putting into use the expanded treatment area helps to solve the overload situation, relieve stress for patients and medical staff, including many departments that are overloaded by more than 200%.

The interventional cardiology department used to have 26 beds, but the number of patients always doubled. After moving to the new treatment area, it will increase to 50 beds with many amenities such as bedside call devices, additional resuscitation rooms with ventilators in the department...

According to Dr. Ha Tan Duc - Head of the Stroke Department, Can Tho Central General Hospital, previously the stroke department only had 13 beds in the plan, but in the new location, 35 beds were arranged along with a separate recovery area, helping to better treat and care for stroke patients. This helps relieve pressure on medical staff as well as patients, with the increasing number of stroke patients, expanding the scale and investing in equipment is extremely important.

In addition, the 3rd floor area is where the operating room area is arranged with 3 fully equipped operating rooms, solving the overload situation for current operating rooms with 80 - 100 surgeries/day; at the same time, deploying more advanced and specialized techniques.

The 4th floor is where the training center and conference hall are located, where training activities for medical staff for the hospital and the Mekong Delta region are organized.

According to the board of directors of Can Tho Central General Hospital, the project to expand the hospital treatment area was approved by the Ministry of Health with a scale of 4 floors, with a total construction floor area of nearly 3,300m2 , and a total investment of about 70 billion VND.

According to the development plan of Can Tho Central General Hospital in the period of 2021-2025, it will become a hospital that meets the specialized medical examination and treatment needs of people in the Mekong Delta region in a modern direction. Become a special-class complete general hospital in 2025.

The specific goal is to increase the scale to 1,200 beds; in addition to the successfully implemented kidney transplant, other organ transplant techniques such as liver transplant will be performed. At the same time, the current Orthopedic Trauma Center will be completed, the Stroke Department will be strived to become a Stroke Center, and an Oncology Department will be established.
