According to the People's Committee of Bac Viet Commune, many years ago, some households in the commune developed beekeeping. However, most households raised only 1-2 bee colonies to serve the needs of their families. By around 2015, some households had developed the scale of beekeeping to produce honey for sale to the market, but the price was low, and the consumption market was only within the commune and village.

Ms. Bành Thị Huyền, Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Bắc Việt Commune, said: In 2022, the People's Committee of the Commune promoted and mobilized 16 beekeeping households in the area to establish the Bắc Việt Commune Beekeeping Cooperative. On that basis, the People's Committee of the Commune coordinated with specialized agencies to conduct technical training for members of the Cooperative as well as some beekeeping households in the commune who wanted to participate.

Mr. Chu The Hung, Director of Bac Viet Commune Beekeeping Cooperative, said: Since its establishment, the Cooperative has participated in 6 training courses organized by the Commune People's Committee in coordination with relevant agencies of the district. Through that, members have better grasped the techniques of raising and caring for bees as well as harvesting honey products to ensure the best quality. At the same time, instead of producing in the "everyone does it their own way" style as before, after the training courses, the members of the Cooperative have applied a uniform honey beekeeping process.

From 2022 to present, the cooperative has maintained a scale of raising about 300 bee colonies. At the same time, honey production has increased significantly. From 2023 to present, the cooperative has sold about 2,000 liters of honey to the market per year, an increase of 500 liters compared to 2022.

Since the beginning of 2024, the District People's Committee has selected and developed the cooperative's products into OCOP products. Accordingly, the District Department of Agriculture and Environment has coordinated with relevant agencies to support the cooperative in designing product labels and packaging; supporting about 3,000 glass jars with labels according to the design and a honey hydrolysis machine worth nearly 100 million VND.

By mid-2024, Bac Viet honey products have been evaluated and classified as 3-star OCOP. On that basis, specialized units and the People's Committee of Bac Viet commune have actively supported the Cooperative to connect and develop markets for products through many forms such as: participating in fairs, promotional events, introducing products inside and outside the province; registering and putting products on e-commerce platforms; distributing products to clean food stores, MEVil green stations, tourist areas, and stores promoting and introducing OCOP products in the province.

Thanks to the above solutions, the value of Bac Viet honey products has been increasingly enhanced. Currently, honey products of Bac Viet Beekeeping Cooperative are sold on the market at a price of about 400,000 - 500,000 VND/liter, bringing in revenue for the cooperative from 600 to 800 million VND/year. At the same time, the product has "reached" the markets of neighboring provinces and cities such as: Hanoi ; Bac Giang; Bac Ninh...

Mr. Chu The Hung, Director of Bac Viet Commune Beekeeping Cooperative, added: Currently, the cooperative's products are almost always in a state of not being enough to sell. Therefore, in the coming time, the cooperative plans to continue to develop the scale of bee colonies. At the same time, it will focus on the process of raising, caring for and harvesting to ensure the best quality products.

Mr. Hoang Duong Tuan, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Van Lang district, said: In the coming time, the unit will continue to provide maximum support to production entities regarding technical standards and regulations in the production and processing process so that products can be continuously improved; support trade promotion to continue expanding the product consumption market.
