Bringing Vietnam - Cuba comprehensive cooperation to a new stage

At the invitation of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and his wife, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam and his wife will pay a State visit to the Republic of Cuba from September 25-27, 2024. PV: Could you please share the purpose and significance of the State visit to the Republic of Cuba by General Secretary, President To Lam and his wife?

Comrade Le Hoai Trung: This is Comrade To Lam's first visit to Cuba as General Secretary and President, and Cuba is one of the first countries that General Secretary and President To Lam has visited, in the context that the two countries are preparing to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1960-2025).

Over the past 65 years, the traditional solidarity, support and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba have been constantly cared for, consolidated, promoted and developed in many fields. During the years when the Vietnamese people waged the resistance war for national liberation in the 1960s and 1970s, Cuba was always a symbol and a leader in the world people's movement to unite and support Vietnam's just struggle, providing Vietnam with valuable and effective support and assistance. For its part, Vietnam has always actively strengthened solidarity, cohesion and made efforts to promote and improve the effectiveness of comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and the two countries. Leaders of the two Parties and the two States have repeatedly emphasized that the relationship between the two countries is a "symbol of the times". The visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam aims to implement the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress, thereby affirming that Vietnam attaches great importance to and wishes to develop relations with traditional friendly countries. The visit demonstrates the solidarity, loyalty, exemplary, and consistent spirit of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam with the Party, State, and people of Cuba. At the same time, it affirms the Party, State, and people of Vietnam's desire to accompany, cooperate, and develop together to constantly consolidate, promote, and develop the traditional solidarity and special friendship with the Party, State, and people of Cuba. Through the visit, the highest leaders of the two Parties and States will exchange and evaluate the achievements and results of cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba in recent times and propose directions to strengthen and improve the effectiveness of cooperation in all fields, bringing the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba to a new stage, increasingly developing substantially and sustainably, for the benefit of the people of the two countries. Reporter: Could you please share the expectations of both sides during the visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam? Comrade Le Hoai Trung: During this visit, General Secretary and President To Lam will hold talks and meetings with key leaders. In addition, General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation will also lay flowers at the statues of President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban national hero Jose Marti, visit a number of economic establishments, including those with cooperation and investment projects of Vietnamese enterprises; meet with friends and young generations of the two countries. Along with that, there will be flower-laying activities, expressing gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh as well as to the leaders of Cuba. Through the visit, Vietnam affirms its desire to continue to inherit and promote the valuable legacy of relations between the two countries, on the solid foundation pioneered by President Ho Chi Minh and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro. The bilateral meetings and exchanges between General Secretary and President To Lam and senior Cuban leaders will help enhance mutual understanding and enhance coordination on major issues, thereby further consolidating the traditional and special relationship between the two countries. Accompanying General Secretary and President To Lam on this visit are also Party and Government leaders, representatives of Party committees, Government agencies, and localities. There will be bilateral meetings, contacts, and working sessions, through which the two sides will jointly evaluate the results of cooperation in the past time, propose directions and specific measures to strengthen multifaceted cooperation, including economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. As we know, Vietnam is currently the second largest trade partner and the largest investment partner in Cuba from the Asia and Oceania regions. This is also an opportunity for the two sides to continue to enhance mutual understanding and coordinate on international issues for the benefit of both countries and peoples in the current period. In addition, the activities between the two Ladies and the friendly exchanges with the people and young generations of Cuba will also vividly demonstrate the special relationship and affection between the two Parties, the two States and the people of the two countries. I believe that the visit will be a great success, contributing significantly to strengthening the special friendship and close comradeship between the two peoples. The results achieved during the visit will contribute to continuing the glorious and beautiful history between the two countries and bringing the Vietnam - Cuba relationship to a new stage, more substantive and sustainable development, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for socialism, for peace, cooperation and development in each region and in the world.
