Bringing 'rich man's' sport into public schools

Ms. Ha Ngoc Lan, Principal of To Vinh Dien Primary School, said that the school has just signed an agreement with units to introduce golf into the school. All 850 students of the school will be guided and trained by partner coaches from January 2025 until the end of the 2024-2025 school year.

The event is an important first step, affirming that public schools can also access moderneducational standards on par with international standards.

According to the plan, golf will be included in the after-school curriculum of To Vinh Dien Primary School from January 2025 with a duration of 1 period/week.

Students are guided through the first basic movements of golf.

Students will learn this sport of the rich right on the school yard. All training equipment is sponsored by the partner. The project does not use public funds, but students can study for free.

With this project, To Vinh Dien Primary School becomes the first public school to have the opportunity for students to study and practice high-class sports.

"Bringing golf to schools not only helps diversify physical activities and school sports, but also helps students access international sports and become global citizens.

Through the subject, students are trained in many good qualities such as calmness, patience, concentration, honesty, the will to overcome challenges, politeness... These are factors that help children succeed not only in studying but also in life," Ms. Lan shared.

According to Ms. Lan, the school will initially implement the project in the 2024-2025 school year. After that, the school will evaluate the results and survey the wishes of students and parents to have a specific plan for the coming school years.

It is known that some non-public schools are currently planning to introduce golf into schools for students to participate in, but in the form of clubs for students to voluntarily register and pay fees.

Ms. Trinh Hoai Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Primary Education, Ministry of Education and Training, said that teaching golf to primary school students has practical significance, ensuring the goal of comprehensive physical development, linking physical education with education of qualities and life skills. She hopes that the project will be developed, forming golf clubs in schools, and from these schools there will be promising golf talents in the future.
