The reason for the failure of more than 90/115 hectares of winter-spring watermelon in Vinh Tu commune was determined to be due to unfavorable weather throughout the season.

Immediately after planting in February 2025, prolonged cold rains killed 30 hectares of newly planted melons and had to be removed and replanted. Then continued heavy rains caused more anthracnose and downy mildew, causing the melons to lose their leaves, affecting the fruiting rate.

By the end of the season, heavy rains in mid-April 2025 severely damaged the remaining melons. Currently, nearly 25 hectares of melons can be harvested, but only yield 1.4 - 2 tons/ha, while in previous years it reached about 14 tons/ha.

Vinh Tu commune is specifically calculating the damage to report to relevant levels and sectors to consider supporting melon growers to reproduce.
