Every Tet holiday, gold-plated coconuts are popular with many people because of their luxurious and beautiful appearance. This year, many customers have ordered gold-plated coconuts to display with the meaning of wishing for luck and fortune, symbolizing prosperity and wealth. In particular, the coconuts can be displayed for a long time, up to several months.
From a normal coconut, the craftsman uses industrial gold leaf, decorates it with dragon and phoenix images and attaches the words "Phuc, Loc, Tho".
Decorative accessories such as zodiac animals, words, flowers, leaves, etc. are mostly made of plastic glue poured into a mold, then gold plated and attached to the coconut.
Gold-plated coconuts are usually sold in pairs or sets of 3 or 4, depending on the message and writing on each coconut. Depending on the size and sophistication, each gold-plated coconut costs between 300,000 and 600,000 VND.

Ms. Pham Thi Anh Hong (Khue My ward, Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang) said that every day she makes about 20 gold-plated coconuts but still cannot supply them to customers in time.
“Unlike grapefruit or some other fruits that are often scarce or have high prices during Tet, coconuts are easy to buy and can be kept for a long time. Therefore, I received orders a month ago. The closer to Tet, the more orders, and I had to cancel some orders because I couldn’t make them in time,” Ms. Hong shared.
According to Ms. Hong, coconuts of all sizes can be gilded and decorated. However, you should choose a type that is not too old or too young, especially the shell surface must be smooth. The gold chosen is 24K industrial leaf, which is cheap, highly applicable, and is often used for gilding and decoration.
To create a complete gold-plated coconut, the first step is to apply glue to the coconut and let it dry for about 40-45 minutes, then apply gold. Once the gold is applied, use a specialized brush to apply the gold leaf evenly and the final step is to decorate according to your own design. Each pair of gold-plated coconuts takes 1-2 hours to complete.
In addition to gold-plated coconut, gold-plated grapefruit is also chosen by many consumers on the market today.
