This spring crop, cucumbers are grown in a variety of ways, from baby cucumbers for export, medium-sized cucumbers to commercial cucumbers for sale at the market. Through research, it is known that the main cucumber production area of Chan Ly commune (Ly Nhan) - the area where cucumbers are mainly grown for export, has an area of over 70 hectares. Products here include small baby cucumbers (4 - 6 cm in size) and medium-sized cucumbers (6 - 9 cm). Currently, local export cucumbers are in the peak harvest stage, reaching 30 - 50 kg/sao per day. Most of the products are sold by people through agents and directly to local export processing enterprises (including Huynh Tuan private enterprise and Quang Long Company Limited, Ha Nam).

This spring crop, Ms. Vu Thi Tuyet's family in Village 3 planted 5 sao of medium-fruit export cucumbers. After more than 15 days of harvesting, she sold over 2 tons of products. The average selling price since the beginning of the season has reached 8.5 thousand VND/kg, about 5% higher than the same type of melon in the previous spring crop. According to Ms. Tuyet, up to this point, spring melons have been quite stable in terms of productivity due to favorable weather. The products are imported to a processing company in the commune, so the selling price remains high.

Like exported cucumbers, commercial melon products sold at markets in spring growing areas are also quite effective, with the production area increasing quite strongly, accounting for 40 - 50% of the total melon area of the whole season. Nhan Nghia commune (Ly Nhan) has a spring melon area of more than 25 hectares, mainly commercial melons, achieving an average yield of 2 tons/sao, with a stable selling price of more than 8,000 VND/kg (calculated for the whole season). The commercial melon growing area of this year's spring season in Le Ho ward (Kim Bang town) has an area of 21 hectares, because it was planted early, so it has basically been harvested. The melon yield of this season in Le Ho reached an average of 1.5 tons/sao, equivalent to the previous spring crop. The selling price of the product is high, with an average of 12,000 VND/kg for the whole season. Mr. Ta Quoc Toan, Director of Le Ho Agricultural Service Cooperative, said: This spring crop, due to early planting, local cucumber products received high prices while other localities had not yet harvested cucumbers, prices increased by about 10% compared to previous crops.

Production practice shows that the selling price of spring cucumbers this year has helped growers earn a significant income. On average, 1 sao of cucumbers is worth 8 - 10 million VND, after deducting costs (seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, trellis depreciation), the profit is 5 - 7 million VND. Early planting areas with high productivity earn a profit of 7 - 10 million VND/sao. Spring cucumbers are basically grown on high-grade rice land and transitional rice land, compared to rice cultivation in the spring, which is 3 - 4 times higher on the same production area. Cucumber growing households with an area of 8 sao to more than 1 mau this year have an income of 40 - 50 million VND or more. Assessing the production of cucumbers in the spring crop this year, Mr. Nguyen Hai Nam, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry (Department of Agriculture and Environment) said: The spring cucumber crop is being maintained in a stable area of production, forming concentrated areas in localities. Farmers in the province all have experience, techniques for care and weather response, so the cucumbers grow and develop well. Therefore, the productivity and quality of the products are guaranteed to serve both export processing and the external consumer market.

Spring cucumbers usually account for more than 50% of the rice fields converted to commercial crops. Currently, people in many localities choose to develop cucumbers as the main direction in economic development. This year's spring cucumbers have good prices, contributing significantly to the localities' ability to maintain and expand production in the following crops.
