The forest road from Phan Dung to Ta Nang is not very long but it is winding, with many steep hills and deep streams. It seems that since the authorities installed 30 signs and directions on this trail, backpackers and tourists have traveled more and more safely. They have explored the old forest that few people have traveled before.
Meeting backpacker Nguyen Van Thanh (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) at the center of Phan Dung commune, he shared: “Today is the third day the backpacking group traveled from Ta Nang to Phan Dung. On the way back, the group stopped to rest at Phum dam and visited the majestic primeval forest. From afar, everyone could hear the sound of the stream flowing through the stone steps.
This area is quite cool with many precious trees with trunks so big that two people cannot hug them, and their tops are so high. Under the canopy of the old forest, many wild flowers are blooming. Coming out of the forest on both sides of Phum stream are corn and rice fields in bloom of the Rac Lay ethnic people, interspersed with lush green fruit gardens...". Leaning on a stick, carrying a personal backpack on the shoulder, their feet groping each small step to cross the stream. The whole group was exhausted after a long journey through the forest, but everyone was refreshed and laughed heartily. That is the image of the old forest tour in Phan Dung of a group of young people from Ho Chi Minh City.
Mr. Mang Nong, an old farmer in Phan Dung commune, over 70 years old, said: “Phum stream originates from Phan Dung forest (Binh Thuan) and Duc Trong (Lam Dong), runs for dozens of kilometers, curves and weaves through the old forest, then merges into the flow of Yaly waterfall - a waterfall pouring down from a height of 150m, located in Ta Hoang ravine, Phan Dung protective forest, then flows into Song Long Song irrigation lake. At first, Phum dam was only intended to retain water for agricultural production of people in the area near the forest, but since the Phan Dung - Ta Nang tourist route opened, Phung dam has become known to many people and has become an ideal stopover for many travelers. Because Phum dam is surrounded by a majestic primeval forest, with many colorful shrubs and wild flowers, exuding a fragrant scent thanks to the natural spring water. To retain water for irrigation, people here have long blocked Phum stream with rocks. Therefore, above the dam, the vast water cools the forest…”.
In the quiet old forest, the sound of the stream murmuring mixed with the chirping of birds calling their flocks sounds like a charming, melodious song, so pleasant. Almost every journey of the backpackers on this route stops at Phum dam. They not only stop to rest and recover their health but also admire the natural scenery and majestic mountains and forests. The huge rocks on the stream, eroded over time by water, create stone dragons, tiger caves, frog caves, where countless linh fish gather. Around Phum dam is a beautiful natural area like a landscape painting. The backpacking route through the Ta Nang - Phan Dung forest becomes impressive with Phum dam, an ideal stop for travelers. The climate in the mountainous area is fresh and the Phum stream has cool water all year round, along with the majestic mountain and forest scenery here, making many travelers immerse themselves in the vivid natural picture. Phan Dung old forest, where there is the poetic Phum stream, is expected to be an attractive eco-tourism destination.
