The benchmark scores for hot majors at Ho Chi Minh City University of Science such as Information Technology and Computer Science are expected to increase slightly.
Master Phung Quan, admissions consultant, University of Natural Sciences, Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that in recent days he has received questions from a number of candidates with A00 exam scores (Math, Physics, Chemistry) of 27-28, wondering whether they will be admitted to the school's Computer Science and Information Technology majors or not.
Mr. Quan said that the benchmark scores for Computer Science, Information Technology, and Artificial Intelligence in recent years have always been high, far from the rest of the majors. This year, in terms of the ability assessment test scores, the benchmark score for Computer Science is 1,035/1,200 points. Only about 200 out of 90,000 candidates achieved this level.
"The benchmark scores for Computer Science and Information Technology may increase slightly. Last year, the benchmark score for Computer Science was 28.2 and for Information Technology was 27.2," Mr. Quan predicted the benchmark score based on graduation scores. This trend may also occur in most technology majors related to computers.

Meanwhile, the benchmark scores for the Natural Sciences and Basic Sciences groups may not change compared to last year. Therefore, for candidates who love hot majors but have low test scores or are equivalent to or 0.5 lower than last year's benchmark scores, Mr. Quan recommends registering for additional basic science majors that provide training in basic knowledge and skills close to the desired major. For example, if they do not have enough points to enter the Information Technology major, candidates can consider the Mathematics and Informatics major.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Science will enroll about 3,500 students through 5 methods. Of these, 30-50% of the quota is for admission based on high school graduation exam results.

Commenting on the benchmark scores of universities in the South, considering the exam scores of candidates from Quang Binh to Ca Mau - the main recruitment area of universities in the South, Mr. Quan predicted that for groups of majors and schools with benchmark scores of 26 and above last year, the admission scores in groups A00 and A01 may remain the same or decrease slightly, except for very hot majors. On the contrary, if admission is based on groups B00 and D01, the benchmark scores may increase slightly.
In the group of majors with benchmark scores last year ranging from 21-26 points, considering the combination A00, A01, the admission rate this year may remain the same or increase slightly; the benchmark score for combination B00 is predicted to increase more strongly.
"Competition in hot majors and top schools may be more fierce than previous years because many good candidates have certainly chosen the early admission method, and there are few remaining quotas," Mr. Quan predicted.
