At the meeting of the Provincial People's Committee on the afternoon of April 22, Director of the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board Ngo Van Dung reported on the implementation status of the Tra Khuc 1 Bridge project.

Mr. Ngo Van Dung said that the Management Board has set 3 important milestones in implementing investment procedures for the Tra Khuc 1 Bridge project. Specifically, before May 20, 2025, the Board will complete and submit to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal the project feasibility study report. After that, the bidding organization will select a survey contractor, prepare construction design drawings, and complete the construction design drawings before August 26, 2025. The bidding organization will select a construction contractor, sign a construction contract, and is expected to start construction of the Tra Khuc 1 Bridge project before October 15, 2025 in accordance with the province's direction.

Currently, the Management Board has made a detailed plan for each time frame. Mr. Ngo Van Dung proposed that the Provincial People's Committee direct departments, branches and localities to enthusiastically support the implementation of project-related contents, so that the Tra Khuc 1 Bridge project can be started on schedule.

According to the investment policy decision, the Tra Khuc 1 bridge project is about 830m long; the bridge is about 28m wide; there are 2 intersections, underpasses and other auxiliary items at both ends of the bridge. The total investment is 2,199 billion VND, implemented in 2024 - 2027. Previously, Quang Ngai organized a competition for architectural plans and project design plans. Accordingly, Tra Khuc 1 bridge is designed with 3 consecutive circles creating the image of a water bank in the middle of Tra Khuc river, which is symbolic and associated with the history of formation and development of Quang Ngai.

The investment in the construction of Tra Khuc 1 Bridge is very necessary, in order to gradually complete the traffic network in Quang Ngai province according to the approved planning, improve transport capacity, and connect traffic from the northern gateway to the center of Quang Ngai. At the same time, promote, expand and develop the urban space on both sides of Tra Khuc River, create a highlight of landscape architecture space, and build a symbol for the urban center of Quang Ngai...

Current status of Tra Khuc 1 bridge.

According to records managed by the Department of Construction, Tra Khuc 1 Bridge was built around 1963-1964, 643m long, with 20 spans. The bridge was designed with a system of anti-rust steel piles, using piles as pillars, bearing the entire bridge, with sturdy horizontal connections. However, due to being used for too long, and continuously suffering from large floods on the river, although repaired, Tra Khuc 1 Bridge is now seriously degraded. In 2015, when the bridge was determined to be weak, Quang Ngai had to ban trucks from passing through this bridge.
