Many lion and dragon dance troupes from Thailand, Singapore, etc. performed together in Hoi An ancient town, Quang Nam, attracting the attention of many locals and tourists.
On July 29, the Quan Thanh De Quan festival took place at Quan Cong Temple, 24 Tran Phu Street, Hoi An City, Quang Nam. This festival falls on the 24th day of the 6th lunar month and is one of the important cultural activities of the locality. Quan Thanh De Quan, also known as Quan Cong, Quan Van Truong, is a famous historical figure of the Three Kingdoms period (China). He is known for his great achievements, virtues, and loyalty. Hoi An used to be a bustling urban - commercial port, where trading activities between merchants often took place. To ensure trust in debt and loan transactions, merchants needed a place to swear and make commitments. According to legend, in Hoi An there were once transactions of buying and selling on credit, even large ships of goods. Quan Thanh De Quan was revered by the people as a saint, not only to certify the trustworthiness in commercial relationships, but also to punish those who violated the wishes. Therefore, Quan Cong Temple in Hoi An not only has the meaning of an economic court, where the law of social balance is implemented, but also a place to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people. The worship of Quan Thanh has a profound influence on the life of the Hoi An community. The image of Quan Cong has become an important belief in the life of the Hoi An community, helping to maintain faith and guide people to the values of truth, goodness and beauty. Mr. Pham Phu Ngoc, Director of the Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation, said: "The Quan Cong festival at the Quan Cong Temple relic, depending on the period and conditions, is organized large or small, but is always maintained by the community and the government every year, because the festival has many profound religious meanings for local people". Hoi An has now joined the UNESCO Global Creative Cities Network. The annual celebration of Quan Thanh De Quan not only demonstrates cultural assimilation but also clearly demonstrates the international trade and open cultural values of Hoi An, past and present. This year, the festival also has the participation of international lion dance and dragon associations, contributing to raising the scale of the event, expanding international cultural exchanges, promoting the beauty of traditional festivals and Hoi An cultural heritage to domestic and foreign tourists.
