Ticket price is from 100,000 VND/person. Opening hours for visiting Hanoi Flag Tower are 8am-5pm on weekdays.

Built in 1805 under the Nguyen Dynasty, the Hanoi Flag Tower is a witness to more than two centuries of history, standing proudly in the heart of the capital. Previously, the Hanoi Flag Tower was located in the grounds of the Vietnam Military History Museum, but has now become a part of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

The aircraft on display at the Vietnam Military History Museum, at the foot of the Flag Tower, have been moved to a new location.

Couple Matteo and Aurelia (Italian tourists) expressed their excitement when visiting Hanoi Flag Tower. “Before coming to Vietnam, we learned about the history of Hanoi Flag Tower and were deeply moved when we saw this relic with our own eyes,” Aurelia shared.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Sebastien Bracq (a French tourist) said that he had changed his flight schedule back to his country when he heard that Hanoi Flag Tower would open to tourists .

“I visited Hanoi 10 years ago, but due to a tight schedule, I was unable to visit the Hanoi Flag Tower. After returning home, I learned about the history of this monument and was extremely curious. When I heard that tourists could visit the monument, I canceled my flight ticket, determined to extend my trip to visit the symbol of Hanoi,” said Sebastien.

During his first trip to Vietnam, British tourist George Hill expressed his impression and emotion when he saw the Hanoi Flag Tower. “I love Vietnamese history, seeing historical sites with my own eyes, I am more curious and want to explore more. My girlfriend is my tour guide because this is her second time to Hanoi, we are both very excited,” George Hill shared.

Xuan My (18 years old, Hai Phong) said she decided to choose her outfit carefully and put on beautiful makeup to take souvenir photos on her first visit to Hanoi Flag Tower.

“Every corner of the relic site is beautiful and full of history. However, I was a bit disappointed because I couldn’t go to the upper floors of the Flag Tower,” Xuan My confided.

To get to the second floor of the Hanoi Flag Tower, visitors will walk through old brick stairs. The stairs are wide enough for two people to walk together, leading through nostalgic arches. There are four different entrances to the Flag Tower: East, West, South, and North.

On the eastern door, two embossed Chinese characters “Nghenh huc” mean welcoming the morning light. The western arched door is engraved with the word “Hoi quang”, representing the image of reflected light. Meanwhile, the southern arched door bears the word “Huong minh”, symbolizing the direction towards bright light. The northern door has no inscription.

The third floor terrace is surrounded by railings, the vertical body of the Flagpole with hexagonal interwoven flower wall motifs, looking like a spider web. From the Flagpole watchtower, visitors can have a panoramic view of the ancient Thang Long citadel, admire Doan Mon, North Gate, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Hoan Kiem Lake.

On the body of the Flagpole, visitors can see many peeling walls, bearing the mark of time.

From the entrance, visitors can admire the entire Flag Tower, both sturdy and elegant. The structure is 33m high, including the flagpole, 44m high, consisting of three truncated square pyramidal bases stacked in a series of smaller and smaller layers, and a tower rising high.

During the first days of opening, the Flag Tower welcomed more than 10,000 visitors each day. Ms. Nguyen Minh Thu (Head of the Tour Guide Department, Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center) said that the Center will use more projection and lighting technology to further honor the value of the Monument this year.

“The Hanoi Flag Tower will become a historical and cultural bridge, helping the younger generation better understand the glorious past of the nation. Opening it to visitors is not only to preserve the heritage but also an opportunity to spread the cultural values ​​of the capital,” said Ms. Thu.
