At Van Thanh flower village (Ward 5, Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province), Mr. Nguyen Hung Vy - a flower grower said that this year, there are many fluctuations, the economy is difficult, so farmers proactively produce less to consume all the Tet holiday. Purchasing power is also forecast to be weak, so flower growers have proactively cut production.
Although he has more than 12 years of experience growing flowers for Tet, has one of the largest cultivation areas in the region, and also cultivates many popular varieties of lilies with distribution markets throughout the country, when it comes time to plant flowers for Tet this year, he is still hesitant.
In Da Lat City, flower growers have also reduced the area of flowers planted for Tet this year by 10-30%. Instead, they focus on care to achieve the best yield and quality in the hope that prices will increase near Tet, because the Tet flower crop is the most important of the year for gardeners.
As a chrysanthemum grower with over 20 years of experience, Mr. Vu Ngoc Thanh grows 3 sao of chrysanthemums to supply the Ho Chi Minh City market at Ha Dong flower village (Da Lat City). Mr. Thanh said that this year, chrysanthemum consumption may not be as good as previous years.
As many families choose to cut back on flower purchases, they will instead opt for plants that can be displayed for a long time. Therefore, flower growers are more cautious than in previous years.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chau - Deputy Director of Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: "The 2024 Tet flower market is forecasted to be affected by the difficult economic situation and concerns about purchasing power that will impact gardeners and consumers. However, with its unique climate and soil, Lam Dong has always been a famous flower growing region in the country.
Hopefully, with flexible adjustments and adaptations, the Tet flower market can still find opportunities and continue to contribute to the joyful and exciting atmosphere of the traditional Tet holiday."
