Domestic pepper prices updated on the afternoon of April 22, 2025

Pepper traders predict that in the coming time, pepper prices will remain high and may increase slightly due to reduced supply and strong demand both domestically and for export.

Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA) informed that Vietnam pepper output this year may continue to decrease. Prolonged drought in the first months of 2025 has significantly affected pepper production in the Central Highlands and Southeast provinces.

Despite the decrease in output, pepper growers are excited because prices are still high. Currently, Vietnam's pepper harvest is at its peak and is expected to last until the end of April 2025. In previous years, at the time of pepper harvest, pepper prices often decreased due to abundant supply. But this year, despite being in harvest time, domestic pepper prices are always around 150,000 VND/kg because farmers are selling sparingly because they are not under financial pressure.

According to the latest information, Ms. Hoang Thi Lien - President of the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association, while some US importers are ready to pay an additional 10% import tax on goods from all countries, some other importers are still hesitant and not ready to pay this additional tax on Vietnamese pepper shipments.

According to Ms. Lien, if after 90 days of suspension, the US still maintains the reciprocal tax rate with Vietnam, Vietnamese pepper will be at a great disadvantage compared to pepper from Brazil, India, Indonesia, etc., in the US market, because these countries are subject to much lower reciprocal taxes, or even no reciprocal taxes like Brazil.
