The project to increase the clearance of 11 road bridges in the Southern region, when completed, will be a great driving force contributing to improving the transport infrastructure system in the Mekong Delta region.
Overcome difficulties and accelerate
In the last days of 2024, Giao thong Newspaper reporters returned to the construction site of the project to increase the clearance of 11 bridges in the southern region. Although many places still have land clearance problems, the construction atmosphere is very urgent.
Construction of Mo Cay bridge in Mo Cay district, Ben Tre province.
According to records, at the Moc Hoa bridge project in Ward 3 and Binh Hiep Commune, Kien Tuong Town, Long An, people have received compensation and handed over the site to the investor.
The project affected 81 households in Binh Hiep commune, ward 3. Currently, the locality has completed compensation and site clearance payments.
On the bank of Binh Hiep commune, the contractor has completed the construction of pillars T2 to T8 on the side of pier M2, and poured reinforced concrete for cross beams and bridge decks for 5/9 spans, completing four segments of the bank protection embankment.
The contractor is currently preparing to cast girder I33 at the factory according to the additional site handover schedule, and constructing bored piles for pier T2 according to the newly handed over additional site. The progress of Moc Hoa bridge has reached over 60%.
At the same time, at Mo Cay mine bridge (Mo Cay Nam district, Ben Tre province), after many months of temporary suspension due to lack of land, construction has now resumed. Accordingly, the contractor has completed 16/58 bored piles of the foundation of pier T5, T6, all pier T5, pier T6.
Currently, the organic excavation of the connecting road area towards Tan Hoi commune has only been partially handed over (about 150m). The remaining area is still temporarily suspended, waiting for the handover of the land to deploy the construction of the abutments, land pillars and the access roads on both sides of the bridge.
According to the Waterway Project Management Board, the project to increase the clearance of road bridges in the Southern region has so far produced more than 208/1,102.5 billion VND, reaching nearly 19%. Compared to the plan, it is 1.82% behind schedule, mainly due to land clearance problems.
Specifically, site clearance and relocation of technical infrastructure in localities are much slower than the project's progress and plan, so mobilization and implementation of construction do not meet the plan.
The project is divided into two packages. Package XL01, with 6 bridges having started construction, including: Mo Cay, Mang Thit, Giong Gang, Hong Ngu, Sa Dec and Moc Hoa.
Moc Hoa Bridge, Kien Tuong town, Long An, construction is over 60%.
Facilitate ship traffic
According to the Waterway Project Management Board, the XL02 package will construct 5 bridges. Accordingly, for the Vam Xang - Thi Doi bridge, the contractor has constructed 35/64 bored piles of piers T3 to T7; completed piers T5, T6, T7, and the foundation pit frame of pier T4. The remaining pier T4 and bored piles of piers T1 to T3 and pier M1 are being constructed. The locality has only handed over about 40% of the site area.
O Mon Bridge has handed over part of the underwater area and the area of 63/84 households has been cleared.
The contractor has constructed temporary bridge pilings from pier M1 to pier T5, and has installed beams on 5/7 spans. Currently, they are waiting for the entire temporary bridge area and remaining households to be cleared for simultaneous construction.
Dong Thuan Bridge has handed over 90% of the site area, started construction on September 16, the contractor has constructed 8/24 bored piles. Preparing to construct the above-ground piers.
Dong Binh Bridge, 75% of the site area handed over, construction started on September 18, the contractor completed 15/24 bored piles (piers M1 to T2).
The service bridge has been completed, the site is being cleared and waiting for people to remove all their belongings before the site is handed over to start construction of the next pillars.
Completed two piers and abutments of Mo Cay bridge.
For Thoi Lai bridge, the locality has handed over 50% of the site and started construction on October 21. Currently, the construction unit is mobilizing equipment and human resources to construct the service road and prepare for bored pile construction.
The goal of the Ministry of Transport is to accelerate the project's progress so that by 2025, 11 bridges can be put into operation synchronously along with the Cho Gao canal expansion project, expanding the logistics corridor, and facilitating the movement of ships and boats.
The completion of phase 1 of the project will be a great driving force to contribute to improving the transport infrastructure system in the Mekong Delta region.
At the same time, it improves the capacity of waterway transport, reduces congestion and pressure on freight transport on roads, reduces the cost of transporting goods from production sites to consumption markets, and actively contributes to the goal of hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and socio-economic development.
In addition, it contributes to reducing traffic accidents on roads and waterways, and synchronizing the transportation network in the region.
