"Hope" project nurtures the future of poor children in Chu Prong area

Báo Công thươngBáo Công thương31/10/2024

After 3 months of operation, the 'Hope' project of the Chu Prong charity group (Gia Lai province) is currently raising 26 poor students with the help of 260 benefactors.

The “Hope” project of the Chu Prong charity group (Gia Lai province) not only timely takes care of children in especially difficult circumstances but also helps kind-hearted people fulfill their desire to help the community. By spending 100,000 VND per month, many benefactors have joined hands to “raise” disadvantaged children to have better living conditions.

Making magic from the crowd

In Chu Prong district (Gia Lai province), there are many children in extremely difficult circumstances, mainly orphans. They are not strong enough to work, so they do not have money to cover living expenses. Meals in poverty have become a familiar image associated with children's meals here.

Understanding those difficulties and shortages, Mr. Nguyen Dac Kien Binh - Head of the Chu Prong charity group - founded the "Hope" project with the goal of sharing the difficulties and misfortunes of children in disadvantaged areas. The "Hope" project was launched on August 1, 2024 with the participation of 160 benefactors. The "Hope" project's executive board currently has 18 members and is chaired by Mr. Nguyen Dac Kien Binh. The project members are of different ages and occupations. Among them, there are secretaries and deputy secretaries of the Youth Union of communes and towns.

Sharing the reason for establishing the project, Mr. Nguyen Dac Kien Binh said: “I am a teacher myself, working closely with students in disadvantaged areas, so I have witnessed many children lacking parental love. Some children drop out of school or do not attend school regularly due to difficult circumstances. Stemming from the desire for orphans to have the opportunity to study and rise in life, I have cherished it for a long time and joined hands with friends to establish this project. Right from the first days of implementation, the “Hope” project did not promise to carry out large-scale plans, we only had the simple desire to bring the most meaningful and practical things to poor children”.

The “Hope” project offers a very specific approach, each person contributes 100,000 VND/month, 10 people working together will help 1 child have better living conditions. The children selected for support are from poor households, have difficult circumstances, are orphans and have received little help from benefactors before.

Before implementing the assistance, the Project Management Board will survey the circumstances through the local authorities, select eligible children, and then create a support profile. Each situation will be given a separate support code (HVCP01, HVCP02, ...) to avoid confusion about name, address, and to easily track the support process. Each code is a different Zalo group. In this Zalo group, donors will be updated on activities of visiting, giving gifts, giving support money, and understanding the situation of the children.

Each code corresponds to 10 benefactors who will receive help. These benefactors will “contribute” 100,000 VND/month each. There are also cases where many children will be helped at the same time, depending on different conditions.

Mr. Binh said that the most recent case that the group helped was that of Nguyen Ha Phuong Anh (born in 2016, Ring village, Ia Mo commune, Chu Prong district). Phuong Anh's mother has passed away, and she is currently living with her father and 3 siblings, the youngest of whom is only 1 year old.

According to Mr. Binh, after learning that Phuong Anh's mother had passed away due to postpartum complications, the family still had a newborn baby, and her father had to borrow money from everywhere, running to a district 70km away from home to ask for milk. His group mobilized milk to feed the baby. With the help of benefactors, the baby's father named the baby boy Thien Nhan.

“Realizing the difficult family situation, the father had to work hard to raise 4 children, so we offered to help Phuong Anh. When we brought the benefactors to learn about her situation, everyone expressed their desire to share and support her,” Mr. Binh shared.

Similarly, Ro Lan Al (born in 2016, Siu village, Ia Me commune, Chu Prong district) is also one of the cases that the project helped. His mother died early, his father left without providing for his upbringing, and he is currently living with his grandparents. Ro Lan Al's grandparents are old and often sick, and their ability to work is weak, so the three of them can only rely on each other to survive, eating rice when they have rice, and porridge when they have porridge when they have porridge.

Receiving the amount of 1 million VND/month from the "Hope" project, grandparents and Ro Lan Al were extremely happy and grateful. "I thank you, uncles and aunts, for helping my family. With money, my grandparents will have less trouble, and our family will have more food. I will try to study well to not let you down," said Ro Lan Al.

Want to give more "hope"

As someone who always actively participates in charity programs, Ms. Phan Thi Huyen (Group 3, Chu Prong town) decided to help 2 cases of the "Hope" project.

Ms. Huyen said that although she does not directly take care of the children, she really wants to contribute some of the expenses to help them have less hardship in life and have more determination to strive in their studies.

“After learning about the project, I found it to be a very meaningful project and introduced it to my family and friends to spread the word. By spending just 100,000 VND/month, you have contributed to helping a child gain more strength to rise up in life. Hopefully, in the future, the project will continue to receive support and participation from many benefactors,” Ms. Huyen confided.

After 3 months of operation, the “Hope” project has had the participation of 260 donors. Currently, the project is helping 26 children in difficult circumstances.

According to Mr. Binh, the amount of 1 million VND will be transferred directly to the children between the 1st and 5th of each month. All work is transparent and clear under the supervision of the Project Management Board. If the donors want to meet the situations directly, the Management Board will organize visits so that the registrants can contact the children.

“In addition to the monthly support, on holidays, Tet, and the beginning of the school year, donors will support with clothes, books, gifts, etc. depending on their ability. The project will help long-term until the children finish grade 12. In the case of children dropping out of school or not making an effort in their studies, we will consider and stop helping,” Mr. Binh informed.

Sharing his wishes and plans for the future, Mr. Binh said: “In the past time, the project has received the attention of many benefactors across the country. Many people, although not familiar with the project, were willing to participate when they learned about it. Because we do not want to disappoint that trust, the Executive Board will strive to connect and maintain the project well. We hope that the project will spread more and more to help more situations in the future. In 2024, the project strives to have about 100 children receive support and expand the scope of help, not just in Chu Prong district.”
