With this result, in just 10 months, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover to China reached its highest level and exceeded the export value of the years in the period 2013-2023.

Official export to China of 11 specialty fruits
Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien - Department of Asian - African Markets (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that China is a large and important market for countries around the world and is currently the largest consumer market for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables, the output of 90% of lychees and 80% of dragon fruits produced by Vietnam each year. China is also the leading export market for cassava and cassava products of Vietnam, as well as rubber. For seafood products, China is the third largest export market of Vietnam, after the United States and Japan.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, our country is currently officially exporting 11 types of specialty fruits to China such as durian, jackfruit, dragon fruit, banana, mango, longan, lychee, watermelon, rambutan, mangosteen, passion fruit, in addition to sweet potatoes and black ginseng. Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover in 2023 reached 5.6 billion USD, of which China alone was 3.63 billion USD, accounting for nearly 65% of Vietnam's total fruit export turnover. In 2024, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export turnover is expected to be about 7.5 billion USD, of which China alone will reach over 5 billion USD, accounting for about 70%.
According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, China has a large population of 1.4 billion people, is the second largest economy in the world, so the demand for fruit and vegetables is increasingly large, especially tropical fruits that Vietnam has the advantage of producing in large quantities and with good quality.
Chinese consumers are increasingly interested in clean, safe, natural, reasonably priced agricultural products, which are the strengths of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables. Many Vietnamese fruits such as durian, dragon fruit, banana, jackfruit, mango, passion fruit, lychee, etc. are known and favored by Chinese consumers thanks to their delicious taste and quality that is not inferior to those of neighboring countries.
Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen said that trade agreements between Vietnam and China help reduce taxes and create favorable conditions for Vietnamese fruit and vegetable exports such as the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuc - General Director of AutoAgri Software Technology Joint Stock Company: "Recently, we have seen breakthroughs in the official export turnover of vegetables and fruits to the Chinese market. Continuously signed protocols have paved the way for Vietnamese vegetables and fruits".
Exporting fruits and vegetables to China still faces many challenges
Besides the advantages, exporting fruits and vegetables to the Chinese market also faces many challenges such as competition, quality standards, technical barriers and market access. Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen said that the Chinese fruit and vegetable market has many competitors from other countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Cambodia, Australia... and some countries in South America such as Chile, Peru, Ecuador, especially domestically produced fruits and vegetables of China such as bananas, dragon fruit, lychee, longan, grapefruit...
"China's food safety standards are increasingly strict and changing, requiring Vietnamese businesses to update and meet these requirements," Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen shared.
According to Mr. Nguyen, finding customers and building distribution channels in China is also a big challenge for Vietnamese businesses. Most Vietnamese fruits and vegetables are sold to small Chinese traders who are concentrated in the northern border of Vietnam. Vietnamese businesses have not penetrated deeply into the domestic market and the northern provinces and regions of China.
To maximize potential and overcome challenges, according to Mr. Nguyen, Vietnamese enterprises need to invest in production and processing technology, apply international techniques and standards to ensure quality and food hygiene and safety. Create a good image for Vietnamese fruit and vegetable products in the Chinese market to gain the trust of Chinese consumers in the quality of Vietnamese fruit and vegetable products through good production practices such as VietGap, Global Gap. Products must have beautiful packaging, clear labels and easy traceability of origin to create peace of mind for consumers.
To enhance the position of Vietnamese fruits and vegetables in the international market, especially the potential Chinese market, businesses need to constantly innovate. Mr. Nguyen believes that strong investment in modern production and processing technology along with strict compliance with international standards such as VietGAP and GlobalGAP are key factors. In addition, building a brand and ensuring clear traceability will help Vietnamese fruits and vegetables gain the trust of Chinese consumers, opening up great export opportunities.
According to Mr. Nguyen, the Government needs to have stronger support policies to help the Vietnamese fruit industry develop sustainably. Speeding up the negotiation and signing of protocols with China will create favorable conditions for businesses to export more types of fruit. In addition, building concentrated raw material areas and applying high technology to production will help improve quality and production efficiency, meeting the strict standards of the international market.
Regarding the authorities, Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien also made some important recommendations to promote the export of Vietnamese agricultural and aquatic products to the Chinese market. According to Mr. Kien, the Ministry of Industry and Trade needs to actively work with relevant Chinese agencies to soon open the market for Vietnamese agricultural products, while creating favorable conditions for the establishment of trade promotion offices in key provinces and cities of China.
