Dong Thap invests 20 billion in roundabout to replace intersection with 5 traffic lights

The roundabout, built at a total cost of nearly 20 billion VND, will replace the seven-way intersection where five traffic lights were installed, which previously posed a potential risk to traffic safety.

At the intersection of Tan Phu Dong commune, Sa Dec city ( Dong Thap ), workers and many equipment and machines are operating continuously.

Mr. Ha Van Luong, Deputy Director of Equipment Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company 1 (the contractor) said: "Currently, at the construction site, the contractor arranges for workers to do work related to curbing, foundation curbing, pouring concrete and paving sidewalks."

Contractors are urgently constructing the seven-way intersection in Sa Dec city (Dong Thap).

Up to now, the project has reached 80% progress. The contractor has carried out the work of rolling the road surface and laying the hot asphalt concrete layer 1 using C19 type of asphalt, 7cm thick, and layer 2 using C9.5 type of hot asphalt concrete, 5cm thick.

In addition, the contractor also constructed a drainage system, made sidewalks, installed central island lighting and completed the public lighting system.

The project started construction in early September 2023 and is expected to be completed and put into use by December 31, 2024 according to the proposed schedule.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuy Sy, Deputy Director of the Project Management Board and Land Fund Development of Sa Dec City (Dong Thap) said: "The project of the intersection of Highway 80 - Provincial Road 853 - Hung Vuong Street and Le Hong Phong Street is invested by the unit.

The project has a total investment of nearly 20 billion VND. Once completed and put into use, it will contribute to building urban development infrastructure, serving people's travel needs and creating a premise for local socio -economic development.

Construction contractors pay attention to traffic safety work.

In addition, this intersection will help the locality strengthen measures to ensure traffic safety in the area. At the same time, the project also contributes to creating beauty at the gateway to the central area of ​​Sa Dec city.

Previously, there were 5 traffic lights installed at this intersection. However, during rush hours or power outages, the traffic lights were not effective, leading to traffic congestion, chaos and unsafety in this area.

In addition, running red lights also happens frequently, is very dangerous and causes many traffic accidents.

The intersection is built on Highway 80, so the unit must ask for opinions and get approval from specialized agencies before implementing. Besides, the amount of traffic on this national highway is very high, so ensuring traffic safety during construction is always focused.

When the project is completed, the old traffic lights will be removed.

"Recently, due to the heavy rain, the investor has directed the contractor to fill in potholes at the construction site to make people's travel more convenient and smooth," said Mr. Sy.
