Dong Thap announced the completion of quarantine of 6 Red-crowned Cranes at Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden

DTO - On April 19 at Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden, Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee coordinated with relevant units to organize the Ceremony to announce that 6 Red-crowned Cranes from the Kingdom of Thailand have completed the quarantine period and are ready to be transferred to Tram Chim National Park. This event marks an important first step in implementing the Project to conserve and develop Red-crowned Cranes in Dong Thap for the period 2022 - 2032.

Attending the ceremony were Ms. Wiraka Moodhitaporn - Consul General of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Le Quoc Phong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Huynh Minh Tuan - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Executive Board of the Red-crowned Crane Project; Dr. Tran Triet - Director of the Southeast Asian Crane Conservation Program, International Crane Federation (ICF); Ms. Huynh Thu Thao - Chairwoman of the Board of Members of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden Company Limited, along with representatives of professional agencies, scientists , international organizations, accompanying businesses and a delegation of guests from the Kingdom of Thailand.

In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Minh Tuan expressed special thanks to Ms. Wiraka Moodhitaporn - Consul General of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City for being an important "bridge" to promote bilateral cooperation in the field of biodiversity conservation. At the same time, he acknowledged the timely support of the Thai Consulate General in funding the construction of a standard isolation cage for the cranes at the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Minh Tuan emphasized that today's event is not only of scientific significance but also a vivid demonstration of the spirit of international cooperation and regional cohesion. It is a message of shared responsibility in biodiversity conservation, contributing to preserving precious natural heritage for future generations. At the same time, he expressed his belief that with the joint efforts of the government, business community, non-governmental organizations and people, the goal of restoring the Red-crowned Crane flock will soon become a reality.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Huynh Thu Thao - Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Members of Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens Company Limited, member of the Project's Executive Board said: "We are honored to be the unit that received, cared for and successfully quarantined 6 red-crowned cranes in the past time. With high responsibility and enthusiasm, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens will continue to accompany Dong Thap province and partners in the next stages of the Project."

Vietnamese and Thai experts prepare to transport Sarus Cranes to Tram Chim National Park


Vietnamese and Thai experts transport Red-crowned Crane cages to specialized vehicles.

After a period of isolation and quarantine at Saigon Zoo, experts determined that, up to now, all 6 red-crowned cranes are in good and stable health, eligible for transportation to Tram Chim National Park to continue raising, caring for, and reproducing, aiming to restore the crane flock and release them into the natural habitat at Tram Chim National Park.

Dong Thap province's specialized convoy departs to bring red-crowned cranes from Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden to Tram Chim National Park.


By 11:00 a.m. the same day, 6 red-crowned cranes were safely brought to Tram Chim National Park.

Immediately after the ceremony, the working group will coordinate with relevant units to complete the procedures to transport 6 Red-crowned Cranes to Tram Chim National Park by specialized means. This is expected to be an important first step in a long-term strategy, contributing to the recovery and stable development of the Red-crowned Crane population in Dong Thap.
